Providers of dyslexia instruction are prepared to use the techniques, tools, and strategies outlined in The Dyslexia Handbook. All dyslexia teachers are fully trained in the MTA Program and instructional materials used in LISD for students with dyslexia. This includes training in critical, evidence-based components of dyslexia instruction such as phonological awareness, sound-symbol association, syllabication, orthography, morphology, syntax, reading comprehension, and reading fluency. Providers of dyslexia instruction deliver the instruction with fidelity in accordance with the MTA Implementation Guidelines. In addition, their instruction is multisensory that simultaneously uses all learning pathways to the brain, is systematic and cumulative, is explicitly taught, uses diagnostic teaching to automaticity, and includes both analytic and synthetic approaches.
Texas state laws have expanded the required members of the MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) convened to determine a student's eligibility for special education and related services when dyslexia is a suspected disability to include at least one member with specific knowledge of the reading process, dyslexia and related disorders, and dyslexia instruction.
At LISD the MDT member will be the provider of dyslexia instruction. All teachers have completed the Texas Dyslexia Academies and meet all the requirements specified in the Texas Dyslexia Handbook Update 2024.
