Hydrobeings
Keepers of the Water Cycle
The Water Cycle Concepts
The water cycle is a natural process and earth's way of recycling it's most precious natural resource. According to nationalgeographic.org the water we experience today in all it's forms has been working through the process for 3.8 billion years! Yes, every single drop of water you encounter has a story. We've given the stages in the process some great names: evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and collection to help us define the science, but what's missing? The story of the Hydrobeings. You see, 3.8 billions years ago this team came together with power, purpose, and courage to give us all a chance at life. They became the Keepers of the Water Cycle, so all life can flourish! ...or so they hope.
How to spot the Hydrobeings
The Hydrobeings are always present and we can begin to imagine them each time we look out a window and observe the world around us. The goal is for students to visualize the Hydrobeings and bring their knowledge, connections, and questions into their daily life. Being conscious of their never ending presence and their message can build a life long concern for water and conservation efforts that extend beyond the seeming basic diagrams of the water cycle.

The Hydrobeings Figurines
Most likely we learned about the water cycle through songs, observations, and diagrams. After 16 years of teaching grade school, I have yet to have a physical object to hold and share while discussing the water cycle. This is a chance to provide a unique interaction with Hydrobeings. The toys, that hold the dimension of a typical hand held action figure, help lead the discussion for students to articulate each phase represented by the Hydrobeings. Listen to your students role play as the work their communication skills to tell fantasy stories, recall the water cycle's phases, or beyond! Apply the Hydrobeings purposes to help stretch to elaborate on real world weather related problems! Each Hydrobeing reminds the student of what they can do to be responsible citizens with our earth's most precious resource, water.
