Writing Adventures
As a teacher, I do a lot of my writing during the holidays
...this is purely a self-indulgent mini-blog tracking some of the adventures that have influenced my stories.
Coffee Shops!
J.K. Rowling totally had the right idea with this...coffee shops are a writing haven, with drinks and cake to hand, and no distractions...like the laundry, the paperwork, the marking, the cleaning blah, blah, blah.

Tenerife
Beach side cafes can be great locations: the swish of the water, happy people, the overhead cries of gulls.
Collioure, France
This was a fun one...sitting under a leaky canopy in a sudden thunderstorm!

Okay, so not technically a coffee shop, but the home view across the Moray Firth works for me.
Ferries work, too. Sailing into the setting sun on a P&O ferry from Zeebrugge to Hull, editing 'Search'.

I adored chilling out at 'The Dowry' one summer in Lerwick, Shetland. Great views of the harbour, amazing food and friendly staff.
The downside? The clientele were friendly too, and I spent half my time chatting with tourists off the cruise ships or local ladies!
In 2015/2016 I took a year-long sabbatical from teaching - my first time out of school in roughly 41 years...eek!
I spent several months of that time glamping in the south of France, indulging in some of my favourite pastimes of writing, reading, exploring, and swimming (preferably in the sea).
