EXPLORING LABORATORY
We will be conducting numerous scientific experiment throughout the academic year along with developing scientific arguments. There are two types of lab you will be doing: in class (i like to call them "wet" lab) and virtual.
"WET" LABORATORY EXPERIMENT
_ You work in group to make a prediction for a research question
_ Develop model or explanatory hypothesis that you will test through experimentation. You will have the opportunities to receive feedback from your peers and from me. You also have the option to defend your opinion.
_ Determine required variable or values through data collecting and analyzing.
_ Some experiment will require you to develop your own procedure. For these experiment, have me check your proposal before conducting them.
_ Using your data and evidence obtained from the experiment, you can make claims and justify them with your scientific reasoning, which must contain scientific principles.
_ Some experiment will require you to present your work to the class. You will receive feedback from both your peers and me. You can also critique each other's work.
_ Adjust your experiment using the feedback received.
_ Assessment for the lab will be done individually and will focus on your ability to
a. Design an experiment
b. Develop scientific argument or claim
c. Construct and explain models
d. Determine the validity of the evidences and whether they can support the claim.
e. Provide reasoning using the evidence to support your claim
VIRTUAL LABORATORY EXPERIMENT
_ You work in pair or individually.
_ We will be using PhET, Gizmos simulation and other interactive tools throughout the school year.
_ Develop explanatory hypothesis that you will test through experimentation. You will have the opportunity to critique each other's work.
_ Determine required value and variable through data collecting and analyzing.
_ Explore new content through answering questions and apply the content to solve problems.
