January 25-Feb. 12:  Artists That Use Hearts in their Work

For the next two weeks we are going to be working on art inspired by Hearts. In class we talked about Romero Britto specifically this week and are using lines and shapes to create patterns inside a large drawn heart. We are using water and tissue paper to add color to our hearts and adding color designs with paint sticks and crayons to the outside of our work.

Take a look over the next few weeks and see if you can be inspired by any work in this video. (credit to Cassie Stephens).

January 19-22:  K-1 Exploring Wax Resists Week 2          2nd Grade - Working in their Sketchbooks & Line/Shape/Color

K & 1st Grade are working on wax resist projects.  First we use oil pastel (or crayon) to draw on the paper or use texture plates to make texture rubbings. Then we use watercolor paint to paint on top of the wax.  We learned that "resist" means to "push away" and it reveals the colors beneath. We're experimenting to see what colors we like together.

January 11-15:  Exploring Wax Resists

This week K & 1st grade are working on exploring what happens when we draw with crayons or oil pastels first, then add watercolor paint on top.

We learned about the word "resist" meaning to push away & learned the wax pushes away the water so we can see our drawings underneath.

2nd graders worked on creating sketchbooks that they will keep in school & use to keep their ideas and practices in.  See link here for sketchbook info.

January 4:  What if I Had Animal Hair?
