Make local history an approachable and creative act by infusing it with social justice. The Los Angeles Public Library’s Octavia Lab created Hidden Heroes Historic Places. A series of coloring pages and short biographies that celebrated and amplified unheard voices from the community’s history. Tehama County Library learned of the work that the Los Angeles Public Library was doing and created their own version. The workshop will provide practical steps for how libraries of all sizes and demographics can transition from history holders to content creators by telling their local history via the lens of social justice.
