The Goal Of Our Culture Project

The goal of this project was to afford students the opportunity to leverage poetry and unpack their unique identities, as they explored their own lives, the lives of their families, and the lives of others in their class. Throughout the project, students established connections, as they built learning alliances and reflected on ways they could lean on each other’s experiences and strengths, to foster a safe, inclusive, and emotionally supportive community. In the end, students produced individual poems, modeled after George Ella Lyon’s “Where I’m From". These pieces were curated and exhibited together in their classroom, and used to showcase on virtual event site!
