Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) is a PTA sponsored program. It encourages children to pick a reading partner (a parent, grandparent, sibling, friend, etc.) and read for at least 20 minutes each day. PARP stresses the fact that reading can be both fun and informative.

Our goal at RPES is to engage students in reading at home and to help them develop a love of reading. PARP is a great time to try a new genre or read a book that's been on your reading list.

This year's PARP program is called "The RPES Reading Extravaganza" and it will take your child on a reading tour of the New York State Fair. Each classroom has a farm animal that they decorated to represent their class. The farm animal will move throughout the "fairgrounds," based on the number of minutes their class reads. Each hallway represents a different part of the fair. Our program was designed to engage our students in reading and to enhance their knowledge of the New York State Fair.

The class at each grade level that reads the most minutes, will earn the Golden Midway Ticket (created to represent the Midway at the fair). Students will also have the opportunity to be featured on "PARParazzi" bulletin boards in our cafeteria. On Monday, March 4th we will hold A Barnyard Knight Reading Frenzy. Our annual Literacy Night, A Knight at the Midway, will take place on Thursday, March 21st.
