Mrs. Cooney currently teaches math courses at Lansdale Catholic which range from Algebra 2, to Statistics, to Calculus, however, there is much more to her story.
After attending Lower Moreland High School, Mrs. Cooney went on to further her educational career at St. Joseph’s University. To pursue her love of teaching, she became an elementary school teacher (second through sixth grades) in the South Bronx of New York in 1991. Then, in 2002, Lansdale Catholic had a job opening for an academic support teacher. According to Mrs. Cooney, the job was ideal because the part-time hours would allow her to be present in her then-new role as a mother. She worked as an academic support teacher from 2002 to 2011.
In 2011, she became a full-time teacher at Lansdale Catholic. Throughout her tenure here, she has not only taught math, but also physics, as a certified science teacher.
After talking with Mrs. Cooney, it is obvious that one of the most important aspects of her life is her faith. The faith community that members of Lansdale Catholic belong to is one-of-a-kind and unique to this school. The way the students and faculty are able to embrace the values of Christ, especially through creating such a welcoming atmosphere, is definitely one of the things she believes makes Lansdale Catholic stand out from other schools. This school has given her the opportunity to continue to grow tremendously in her faith.
Mrs. Cooney surely makes an incredible impact on her students, but they also have a significant impact on her. Her students have changed her perspective on how she looks at numerous aspects of her life, as she does the same for her students. Mrs. Cooney added that the relationships she has been able to make within the community solidify LC as a second home. Her own children have walked these halls, too, which has only helped her grow closer with them.
One thing all students should know about her is that she is "crazy, but in the best way possible.” She loves to teach and inspires her students to want to learn and achieve not only their academic goals, but anything they want to pursue. She brings her joy to the building every day, with a smile on her face, eager to get to know every one of her students and not just as their teacher, but as someone who truly supports them and wants to see them succeed.
Flynn Wassel is a 2020 graduate of Lansdale Catholic. Although her time at LC was cut short, she still managed to leave quite the impact on the LC community, having also served as a leader on the Kairos retreat held this past summer for rising seniors. She now attends Temple University's School of Theater, Film and Media Arts and hopes to create more documentaries like the one featured above which she completed for a school project. Though she encountered some challenges throughout the pandemic and was forced to spend her first semester of college at home, Flynn says it allowed her to "get creative filming without all the resources Temple had," and she was happy with the final product. Reflecting on her high school days, Flynn added, "As overused as it is, LC has meant and will always mean 'family' to me. LC taught me to prioritize my faith and has given me people who do the same, and I'm forever grateful for that."

A. This person graduated from Temple with a degree in French Studies and continued pursuing mastery of the language at the Université Savoie Mont Blanc in France. After becoming fluent in one romance language, this LC teacher found it easy to add the similar language of Spanish to his/her vocabulary. This person has been teaching for an extensive period of time, at a number of different schools. Right off the bat, this language teacher felt the 'family' aspect of LC. S/he said the environment was very positive and the community was extremely welcoming. According to him/her, the hardest part of teaching during the pandemic has been getting to know the students with masks on.

My inspiration for this article was to research and find a place where people could visit during this pandemic to get out of their houses for a change of scenery. I wanted to find a fun spot in our area that is strictly following all of the coronavirus restrictions and is a safe environment. Let me introduce you to Hellerick’s Family Farm. A family-friendly, all-inclusive activity smorgasbord, this destination is sure to solve your boredom blues. While there, you can meet their animals, do an aerial adventure course, do a ground level obstacle course, pick fresh fruits, and even try out some “goat yoga” (yes, that’s a thing)! Hellerick’s Family Farm is located in Doylestown and is safe for everyone. There is something at the farm for everybody of any age! Currently open weekends, from 10am-5:30pm; reservations required.
