Primary Years Programme

What does a PYP classroom look like?

At Langley Park Primary Academy, we deliver our curriculum in a transdisciplinary and disciplinary way.

Transdisciplinary learning enables your child to build concepts and skills across subject areas, rather than studying subjects in isolation. Subjects are distinct, yet interconnected, allowing for a holistic learning experience in which students apply what they're learning in a variety of contexts.

Disciplinary learning enables your child to learn a new skill alongside of the inquiry cycle.  An example of this is Music, when children learn to play an instrument.

Take a look at how the inquiry process comes together across the year groups:

The PYP has 7 key concepts of which 3 are chosen each module to steer the inquiry.  For example: form, what is it like?  This key concept enables children to learn with a specific focus in mind.

The Approaches to Learning are the skills the children develop during the inquiry process.  The key concepts and approaches to learning are revisited throughout your child's education at LPPA.

As you can see from the display boards our learning takes place in many forms.

If you would like to see more, please attend your child's PYP mini exhibition as this is a great opportunity to step inside your child's classroom to see the learning first hand.

PYP exhibitions take place in the last week of every term.
