Newsletter

15th September 2023

Principal's Message:

It feels unbelievable that we are already at the end of our second full week. The children have been extremely busy getting stuck into their learning and producing some excellent outcomes.

Unfortunately, we didn't receive many responses from families about the structure of our newsletter. That being said, we have given thought to what we consider to be most useful for families. We are going to continue with a newsletter each week but you will notice that it is a bit of a "slimmed down" version as we felt that, perhaps, parents were a little overwhelmed with information. We have kept some features that we know you all love like the Golden Apple page, Willow's Corner and Langley Legends. We will also continue with our bumper newsletter at the end of the term where you will be able to find out about all of the learning your children have done. We are also introducing year group newsletters which will be posted on your child's Google Classroom. Within these newsletters, you will find a brief overview of the learning that will be covered in the week ahead. This has been used for some time, very successfully, in our Reception classes and it is working well in our Year 1 and Year 2 classes this year too. Due to this success, we will be introducing it for our Key Stage 2 classes now as well. It's worth taking a look with your child so that they feel prepared for the week ahead.

Drop offs are running really smoothly so thank you for embracing it so enthusiastically. I would like to respectfully ask that you arrive on time. The longer we have to keep doors open, the later learning can begin in the classroom which I am sure you would agree is not the best way to start the academy day. Staff will be closing the doors and gates promptly at 08:40 (for Year R, 1 and 2) and at 08:45 (for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6). It is also so wonderful to see so many children scooting and riding to school. So much so, we are looking to invest in further storage fo them. It would be really helpful if you could remind your children (whether they are at our school or not), that they should not be riding their bikes or scooters on the school site. As you will know, it is such a busy place, with pedestrians, that we would like to avoid anyone getting hurt by being accidently knocked into by someone on a bike or scooter. Thank you for your support with this.

Have the loveliest weekend.

Miss S Brading

Office Reminders:

A small number of parents/carers have recently been spotted driving onto the academy site whilst using their mobile phone. First and foremost, this is obviously against the law, however it also hugely increases the risk of an accident or injury being suffered by a member of our school community at a time when so many are on foot and moving around the car park. It is simply not possible to be entirely focused on both manoeuvring a vehicle and safely observing your surroundings - the distraction caused by mobile phone whilst driving cannot be underestimated. This applies even when you  may be queuing to enter or exit the site if your engine is still running.

Academy staff will be extra vigilant to the above moving forwards so please do ensure that you are driving safely, and adhering to the law, when moving around the academy site.

Contacting the class teachers:

If you have concerns that you would like to raise with the academy, please do so via the office email address which is contactus@langleyparkprimaryacademy.org.uk. Upon receipt, your email will be directed to the relevant member(s) of staff.

We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to Mrs Neame, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.

We are also aware that some parents continue to email staff directly. In the event that this happens, staff have been asked to forward your email to the aforementioned email address to resume communication via the correct channels.

National Online Safety Guide

Like a lot of digital services, live streaming really found its niche during the pandemic. Features such as Joe Wicks' at-home fitness classes, Billie Eilish's virtual gigs and Miley Cyrus' chat show became a regular part of the household routine. Real-time broadcasting of video content over the internet isn't solely the province of celebrities, however, as anyone with a device and something to say (or show) can take part.

With platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, TikTok and Twitch all offering routes to a vast online audience, young people have enthusiastically taken up the baton, streaming on subjects from gaming to sports to live shipping (yes, really!). Potentially having strangers among a person's viewers, though, is just one of many concerns. The below guide includes some key information about live streaming and some top tips about how to keep privacy and safety a priority.
