Newsletter

12th January 2024

Principal's Message:

This week I would like to focus our newsletter on all of the wider opportunities that children have as part of the LPPA community, which are beyond the core curriculum. This is known as the wider personal development of the children.

According to Ofsted, personal development is how "the school's curriculum extends beyond the academic, technical or vocational; how the curriculum and the school's wider work support learners to develop their character; developing responsible, respectful and active citizens."

At LPPA we refer to the personal development of all pupils as the "golden thread" of everything we do and it is encapsulated in our strapline;

"Learning today, for life tomorrow"

Curriculum

We aim to deliver a curriculum that:

Clubs

We provide an extensive menu of co-curricular clubs for our children. There is a total of 61 clubs run by academy staff and external providers throughout the academic year which we are very proud that we are able to offer!

You can find the clubs that are on offer below;

https://langleyparkprimaryacademy.org.uk/academy-life/clubs/

Assemblies

Assemblies are planned carefully relating to current affairs and topics of interest within the local and wider community. Assemblies are centred around a ‘Theme of the Fortnight’ which gives time for our community to link topics of interest, have informed discussions and plan how they are going to demonstrate their knowledge in a supportive way. We use "Picture News" to support the information delivered to the children as it is related to current global affairs. This is also discussed during our PSHE lessons taught in class. Our Celebration Assemblies on a Friday are certainly something which we are proud of at LPPA. We come together to celebrate all of our learner’s successes throughout the week, no matter how big or small these are!

Dog Mentoring at LPPA

Willow is our Dog Mentor at LPPA. She helps to promote children’s emotional wellbeing and resilience. Through the programme, our children build a unique bond with Willow which enables them to face whatever obstacles they may encounter as well as celebrating their individual successes at school.

Pupil Leadership

We have a variety of leadership roles that empower our children to have an impact on our school community.

OPAL Lunchtimes

Our lunchtime provision, due to the way it is organised and implemented, promotes children's wider development through the zones we have on offer and the opportunity for children to interact and support with other children from a range of age groups.

Trips, experiences and events

All of the extra trips and experiences that we organise for the children not only supplement the skills and knowledge that is taught in our curriculum but it also builds the character and individuality of our children.

There are many, many other ways that the children's wider personal development is supported; some are very obvious and others are more subtle. Things like our Learner Profile Attributes, our expectations, our conversations and the general culture of the academy environment all feed in to developing children in this way.

I hope that you have found the above useful to understanding another aspect of life at LPPA!

Have a brilliant weekend.

Office Messages - Attendance:

On 8th January, the Government launched a national campaign to support parents' understanding of the importance of good school attendance. The campaign strapline is 'moments matter, attendance counts' and it supports schools in navigating attendance challenges, in particular those families whose children are taking preventable days of absence.

Linked to the government's campaign is the NHS guidance "Is My Child Too Ill for School" and Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty's open letter regarding mild illness and school attendance. Direct links to both of these documents are provided below.

It is vital that everyone works together to improve school attendance, to tackle and overcome any challenges faced. It is proven that good attendance enhances a child's overall wellbeing as well as their learning, friendships and lifelong attainment.

From the first day of term to the last, the small moments in a school day make a real difference to your child. #AttendanceCounts.

Contacting the class teachers:

If you have concerns that you would like to raise with the academy, please do so via the office email address which is contactus@langleyparkprimaryacademy.org.uk. Upon receipt, your email will be directed to the relevant member(s) of staff.

We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to Mrs Neame, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.

We are also aware that some parents continue to email staff directly. In the event that this happens, staff have been asked to forward your email to the aforementioned email address to resume communication via the correct channels.

National Online Safety Guide

Alexa is an artificial intelligence (AI) software assistant created by Amazon in 2014 and through which smartphone, tablet and smart device users can issue voice commands and ask questions in a range of languages by issuing the 'wake', or activation word "Alexa". It can be accessed in several ways and is integrated into a growing number of 'smart' products including speakers, phones and clocks. Once viewed as expensive gimmicks, Alexa is now one of the most used voice assistants in the field.

In the below guide you will find tips on a number of potential risks such as those around privacy, age-inappropriate content and insecure devices.
