A Langley Legend this week is Charlie, in Cameo Class, who plays football for Medway United Under 10's East team. Charlie's team were awarded the gold shield for 'Best Sportsmanship' at the recent Medway Youth District's Awards evening as a result of scoring 100/100 in sportsmanship by every team they have played against this season. This is a huge achievement and an incredible credit to the whole team in recognition of how players conduct themselves on and off the pitch. Well done Charlie, we are all so proud of you!
Furthermore Charlie's Dad, Mark, who stepped in as manager of the team in 2022 when players graduated from soccer school and needed to form a team (and no one else volunteered), has since taken the team from strength to strength and this is reflected in both the skill and conduct of the team as a whole; Mark's team includes a number of other pupils that attend Leigh Academy Langley Park. As a further surprise at the awards' evening, which Mark attended as representative for the team as a whole, he was presented with a second shield for 'Team of the Year'! This is an incredible achievement for both manager and players as there are over 500 teams that play within the Medway Youth District League!
Well done to Charlie for featuring as a Langley Legend this week, and indeed to Mark and the whole team for their achievements. It is always exciting to hear about a pupil's football achievements but we also celebrate the evidence of exemplary behaviour and conduct within the sport here too.
