Before the summer holidays, you may be aware that we put monitors around the academy site to measure the quality of the air. These monitors were sent back to Asthma and Lung UK for analysis and we have now received the results. The good news is that we are Clean Air Champions! The quality of air around our academy site is excellent, with air pollution being well below the critical level.
Having said that, although we have very minimal air pollution around the site, any amount of air pollution is never good for our lungs, We should therefore all continue to make good choices regarding our contribution to clean air and walking to and from the academy, whenever possible, is always the best choice.
Did you know that walking in the rain is scientifically proven to be very good for you?
According to the BBC news website, when it rains and water splashes onto the ground, some of the air molecules become negatively charged ions. When we inhale these ions, it is thought that they can help relieve stress and even boost our energy levels.
On average in the UK, we have 159 days of rain every year, so let us embrace the weather and go for more walks in our beautiful surroundings!
Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th September is National Recycling Week and 'Recycle Now' are campaigning to help all of us recycle more of the right things.. and more often.
Once our new Eco-Council members have been elected, we will be championing this campaign throughout our academy community and beyond, with new signs on our bins across the academy and taking part in an art competition with Maidstone Borough Council and their waste management contractor SUEZ - watch this space!
Please let us know if you are going green or making a difference to be more eco-friendly by sending an email for the attention of Mrs Vidler-Green via the academy office.
