This week, the last group of Year 6 pupils completed Level 2 of their Bikeability training. They are extraordinarily proud of their achievement and we can see them putting it into good practice should they ride to and/or from school.
On Wednesday, we were pleased to welcome Philip Kavvadias, a children's author, to school. It was an interesting visit within which KS2 children were able to help him make important decisions about significant aspects of his new book including settings and characters. A huge thank you to Mr Fenton for organising it.
Unfortunately, it has been brought to my attention that a minority of parents are trying to vape discretely on the academy site. We are a strictly no smoking or vaping site, for which I am sure you understand the reasons, and are committed to create a safe and healthy environment for our children and this is contrary to this. Thank you for your understanding.
In the spirit of creating better air quality for our children, you will notice we have installed a "no idling" sign in order to encourage our parents and carers to turn off their engines while waiting at drop off and pick up times. Please respect this as it is for the benefit of our children.
As we are now going into the depths of cooler weather, please ensure that your child is attending school with a named coat or waterproof jacket. We aim to be outside for break and lunch times as much as we can in all weathers and we would hate for children to be cold or wet.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Miss S Brading
Punctuality
So far this academic year, we have had 101 incidences of lateness across the academy. Please be reminded that the class doors and gates open at 08:30 giving children plenty of time to arrive to class punctually. Whilst arriving late to school does not always affect your child(ren)'s attendance, it does disrupt wider class routines and learning and can be embarrassing for your child(ren).
As always, if you are experiencing any barriers to good attendance and/or punctuality, we welcome conversations with all families about support that we may be able to offer in this area. Please do pop in and talk to us as we want to work positively with all parents and carers to support excellent attendance across the academy.
Medical Appointments
Please make all medical appointments for outside of school hours where possible so that your child's learning is not affected. In the event that this is not possible, please inform the academy office with plenty of notice and provide evidence of the appointment for their attendance record.
Furthermore, we kindly ask that, if your child is absent for morning registration, but will return to the academy before lunchtime and requires a school meal, that you let us know you child's choice of meal in advance so this can be pre-ordered for them. The kitchen is understandably not able to accommodate additional meals at short notice.

Behind video-sharing platforms such as YouTube, and streaming TV shows and movies, gaming is the third most popular online activity for children in the UK. In fact, according to recent data from Ofcom, an overwhelming 89% of children aged 3 to 17 play video games and, of those, more than 1 in 5 children (22%) talk to other players online who they don't know outside the game.
The risk of contact from strangers is just one of the reasons that many parents and carers are concerned about their child's gaming, with increased screen time, inappropriate content and in-game spending also figure among the most frequent fears. Agreeing on some rules around your child's gaming activities can certainly help and the below guide includes some useful tips for establishing these boundaries.

We respectfully ask that you address any concerns or issues with your child's class teacher in the first instance. If it remains unresolved then your concern will then be escalated to the Key Stage Lead and/or Mrs Neame, Vice Principal. In the unlikely event that it continues to remain unresolved, it will be escalated to Miss Brading at that point.
