Are you interested in becoming an engineer? You've come to the right place! Lane Community College offers nearly every college-level course needed to complete your first two years in several engineering disciplines. Lane also has an articulation agreement with Oregon State University so you can seamlessly transfer LCC classes to OSU. Depending on your situation, a different course map may be right for you, and you should talk to an academic advisor to develop a plan tailored to your needs. However, to give you a good starting framework, two different general tracks are detailed in the tabs above.
Track 1: If you come to Lane ready to attend school full time (taking 14-17 credits per term) with minimal distractions and have already met all the prerequisites for Calculus 1 (Math 251), these tracks lay out an aggressive 2-year plan of the courses you need before transferring to OSU or another school of your choice to complete your degree.
Track 2: If you need to take things a little more slowly (11-14 credits per term) or if you need to begin with College Algebra (Math 111), these tracks lay out a more paced 3-year plan of the courses you need before transferring to OSU or another school to complete your degree.
Most engineering students start with the same courses. Engineering 101 is the place to figure out what type of engineering field you would like to pursue, and get a taste of what being an engineer is like. There are tabs for each engineering discipline with a map of courses you need and when to take them. You will also see a mapping of the LCC course numbers to the same courses at OSU. Each year, LCC meets with OSU to make sure our courses have the same content and meet the same objectives as theirs. While sometimes the number of credits differ, Lane is always committed to providing the same or greater levels of content and support to help you succeed. At at about half the cost per credit, Lane is also a smart choice to save you money!
If you are wondering if you are alone in this, rest assured, you are not! Around half of the students attending OSU get their start at Community Colleges across the state. You can also be dual enrolled at both LCC and OSU through the Degree Partnership Program.
In each map, engineering courses are highlighted in green, math classes are highlighted in orange, and science classes are highlighted in blue. Some courses have pre- or co-requisites, so timing is important! Also, you will notice there are some general education requirements, noted as Core Ed, for which there are too numerous options to list, but the list of transferable classes to OSU can be found on their website at https://catalog.oregonstate.edu/earning-degrees/bcc/.
So let Lane engineer your path to a great career!
