HST202 ONLINE - United States 1820-1900

Hello Students,

I will be teaching one ONLINE section of HST202 United States History for Spring Term at Lane Community College.  This course meets the LCC AAOT & ASOT-CS Cultural Literacy requirement for graduation.

https://lanecc.smartcatalogiq.com/2023-2024/lcc-catalog/programs-of-study/transfer-general-studies-discipline-studies-lists/aaot-university-of-oregon-combination-course-list/social-science-aaot-uo/

The course is a completely online class.  If the class is full, you MUST add yourself to the official MyLane waitlist.  Students will be added to the course in the order they are listed on the waitlist.  IMPORTANT: If you want to look at the syllabus, you don't have to wait and wonder what is required.  CLICK HERE and make an informed decision about whether or not you should enroll in this class.

I've been a history instructor since 1989, and you will find that I enjoy teaching and working with students.  I’m using this web page to give prospective students some information relevant to this particular course.

We will use Moodle and the textbook publisher website MindTap extensively to accomplish our work for this course.  Once registered, you will be able to login to the Moodle site with your L# and MyLane passphrase. The site URL is:

https://classes.lanecc.edu

Second, once logged in, I hope you take the time to read and/or print a copy of the course syllabus, as well as all of the other relevant links.

Third, think about this.  You are spending over $400 to take this course, and most of you know nothing about this "Instructor Joe Escobar" listed in the schedule of classes.  If you fail to drop the course before the end of the first week of class, you will not receive a tuition refund.  To help you decide if you are spending your money wisely, I have posted my instructor and course evaluations completed by my former students over the last several years.  All comments, positive and negative, have been included.  I would strongly advise that you take a look and see if you like what you discover about this class and your potential instructor.  That URL is:

Finally, I wanted to let you know about the course textbook.

Cengage: Liberty, Equality, Power: A History of the American People

All students MUST PURCHASE the Digital Platform (called MindTap) for this course. The price is $92 for the term and it includes the digital version of the textbook.

Here is the link to the book from the textbook publisher.

Well, that's all of the news I have for you now.  I look forward to "meeting you" online and working with you during the term.

Until then,

Joe Escobar
