Welcome to 1st Grade

I, La Keisha Pruitt, am pleased to continue my responsibilities as Belt Line’s 1st Grade teacher. I have 13 years in early childhood, 15 years of classroom teaching, and 5 years of teaching the Pre-K grade level in the private day school setting.

"What is the greatest sign of success for a teacher...?

It is to be able to say, "The children are now working as if I did not exist".

Tips for Parents

Ways to Help Your Child With Homework

1. Help your child find a quiet, well-lit area to work. The same place every day is usually best.

2. Keep supplies handy: sharpened pencils, erasers, markers, crayons scissors, glue, ruler, etc.

3. Pick a homework time and be consistent.

4. Let your child do his/her own homework; it can be checked to see that it's finished, but refrain from having them change answers to make them all correct. If your child is having a lot of trouble with the homework assignment, please write me a note to that effect.

5. Make homework a priority. It needs to be more important than TV, playdates, sports, etc.

Behavioral expectations are important in creating an orderly, respectful, and safe environment. This is also true in the classroom and school environment. Classroom behavioral expectations set the parameters for courtesy and respect, as well as more specific expectations that may guide listening, speaking, and learning. Establishing shared expectations is important to laying a strong foundation for proactive classroom management. I have developed these classroom rules and behavioral expectations for my classroom this school year:

Expectations:

1. I will keep my hands, feet, and other objects to myself.

2. I will raise my hand and wait to be called on before I speak.

3. I will ask permission before leaving my seat and classroom.

4. I will listen to directions and follow them at all times.

5. I will listen quietly while others are speaking.

Incentives:

1. Happy face or the color green in folder.

2. Extra free time activities.

3. Pull from the treasure box.

4. Stickers and praises

5. Recess

Learning Choices:

Zone #1 (blue) – Excellent Behavior

Zone #2 (green) - Ready to learn

Zone #3 (purple) – Warning

Zone #4 (yellow) – Lose 10 minutes of recess

Zone #5 (orange) – Lose all of recess / or change seat/corner desk / visit the counselor's office

Zone #6 (red) – Call a parent / Remove from classroom to another 2nd grade class Parent Conference (including Principal)
