MISSION STATEMENT

The Vocal Music program at OGMS seeks to cultivate and enhance the vocal abilities and skills of students pursuing vocal music with attention to quality classroom instruction based in music theory, musical performance, creativity and the realization of the role of the arts in the our community and the world around us.

About Choir at Oak Grove Middle School

The Choral program at OGMS is comprised of over 200 musicians that enjoy creating and collaborating to produce high energy musical experiences for the Oak Grove Community. Choirs from OGMS have performed throughout the Oak Grove area, and have been recognized at District and State Choral Festivals and Evaluations with Superior Ratings for the past 10 years. What sets the choir program apart from other organizations at OGMS is the fact that 6th grade students have the opportunity to be actively involved in performances, trips, and other educational experiences from the start. We believe in education in action! That means that students get to perform and put what they learn in the music classroom to work from the very beginning. You child doesn’t have to wait 2-3 years to experience concerts, community performances, and travel to nationally acclaimed competitions; preparation for this begins on the first day of class!

In choir, your child will have the chance to sing chart topping songs that they enjoy listening to on the radio, and they’ll also get a chance to perform music that has been a part of our culture for over 100 years. In the fall, each choir performs at the Fall Choral Music Showcase. An amazing light show and live band help make this event a great way to start the school year. In December, we welcome the holiday season with our Christmas Concert “A Night of Hope”. This sold - out event is filled with fun and cheer! After Christmas Break, we work hard to prepare for District Choral Festival, and we prepare our final concert of the year. If your child loves the stage and performing, choir at OGMS is for them!

OGMS also boasts a nationally acclaimed show choir program. We may be a middle school performance group but don’t let that fool you. Our show choir, Spotlight, has received 12 Grand Championship wins over the last five years that include Festival Disney Gold Winner and Best in Class, Heart of America Nashville Middle School Grand Champion, and most recently, recipient of the prestigious FAME award from the National Show Choir Championship Series. Show Choir at OGMS is a co - curricular activity offered during elective periods during the school day. It's not a sport, and it's not a choir, but a combination of both to create a form of competitive entertainment that combines singing, dancing, hard work, and creativity.
