Piazza dei Mercanti ("Merchants' Square") is a central square in Milan. It is located between Piazza del Duomo, which marks the centre of the modern city of Milan, and Piazza Cordusio. It used to be the heart of the city in the Middle Ages.
It is considered as one of the most charming medieval areas in the city and it houses a great number of unusual buildings, which are still definitely worth a visit today.
Some examples are Palazzo della Ragione, a magnificent red-brick building, and Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, which used to house the Chamber of Commerce and the clock tower that for years marked the business hours in Milan.
