arena civica

A fundamental site for sporty types!

The Arena Civica was originally an amphitheater, like the famous Colosseum in Rome, and it was built for official celebrations and parties in 1807. However, it was soon after transformed into a sports facility, and in the early twentieth century it became the centre of Milanese soccer, as it was chosen as Inter's main soccer field. During World War II it experienced a strong crisis, since it couldn't contain the rising number of fans, and was thus replaced by San Siro.

Currently, the arena mostly hosts athletics competitions. It has a 400- meter running track with 8 lanes. So far, the facility has hosted 15 editions of the Italian national athletics championships.
