Santa Maria delle Grazie

Santa Maria delle Grazie’s church is a Dominican convent located near the city centre. Its construction was ordered by the Duke of Milan Francesco I Sforza, and it was later to serve as the Sforza's burial family site.

The church became famous for "The Last Supper", painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the refectory of the convent, which later risked being ruined due to an allied aerial bombardment during World War II. Even today, there are  still a lot of undergoing restorations for the fresco, due to its paint, which was not meant to last for such a long time. Indeed, the colour mix also included egg yolks, which typically tend to fall from the wall with the passing of time.
