Piazza Mentana

It may seem like a normal square with a statue in its centre and many parking spots, but this square and its history have something unique. Some people refer to it as the forgotten square and there's plenty of reasons why. 

The statue in its centre is a monument dedicated to the people that died in the Battle of Mentana (1867). Why is it so important? Well, Garibaldi himself, one of the most important Italian heroes, wanted to build this statue and call the square after this battle. It was one of the most significant defeats in the very early history of our country. 

Unfortunately, nowadays it seems that too many Milanese do not even know of its existence and they just feel like it's a perfect spot to park their car and go shopping in the nearby streets.
