Stephanie Mas is an artist, educator, and mama to three beautiful boys, Sebastian, Eli, and Mylo. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Mas holds a BFA in Dance from The Florida State University. Swiftly after graduation, Mas moved to New York City in 2009 where she began working as a freelance dancer/collaborator. She has had the pleasure and immense gratitude to work with artists Millicent Johnnie, Paloma McGregor, Megan Kendzior, Megan Bascom, Kirstin Kapustik, and BODYART Dance. In 2013, she joined Urban Bush Women as a company member and collaborated in creating original roles in works such as Walking With ‘Trane and Hair and Other Stories. From 2013-2020, Mas toured nationally and internationally with Urban Bush Women and deepened her facilitation practice to become a lead facilitator with BOLD (Builders Organizers and Leaders through Dance). Mas has participated and facilitated in multiple Summer Leadership Institutes through Urban Bush Women and has restaged company works at multiple universities such as The Florida State University, Bucknell University, Sonoma State University, and California State University’s Summer Institute. This practice supported her development as an educator and she continues to integrate UBW’s core values into her practice. From August 2020-June 2025, Mas accepted the position of Dance Director at Cypress Lake Middle School for the Performing Arts in Fort Myers, Fl where she helped guide and shape young dancers to move with confidence and express their artistic voices. A recipient of this year’s FY2027 Teach Arts Ohio grant, Mas has partnered with Lakeview High School to bring a rigorous and exceptional dance program to Lakeview students for the 2026-2027 school year. She is beyond excited to work with the students this year and to build a momentum of confidence, leadership, and grace that stays with them for years to come.
