Heart Words
· Practice writing the words, focusing on the known patterns and heart parts.
· Have your child write the heart words on cards to create a memory game to play.
· Watch for heart words to show up in your nightly reading.
Roll and Read Words
· Practice reading the words
· Play “Roll a Word” – Students roll a die and read the words in the matching column. Game variation: Take turns rolling the die. Read the first word in the column. Cover it up with a coin or scrap paper. The player to cover the bottom word / last word in the column wins that column. The player with the most columns at the end wins.
· Play “Guess My Word”. Write a word down where your child cannot see it. Have your child try to guess your word by pointing to a word on the game board and saying it. See how many guesses it takes. Make it a competition by taking turns guessing words. See who guess the word in the least number of guesses.
· Play “Four in a Row” – Players take turn reading words. After reading the word, cover it with a coin or scrap of paper. The first player to get 4 in a row wins.
· Silly Sentences – Roll the die. Choose a word in the column and create a silly sentence using that word.
