Students graduating from high school may be awarded the distinction of Wisconsin Global Scholar if they have completed the following requirements:
Three (3) credits in one world language
Five (5) credits in courses with global content. Those credits may include a second world language or the fourth year of study in French or Spanish.
Reflections on eight books (fiction or non-fiction) with global content. Alternately, up to four reflections may be on art, music or film.
Participation in culturally focused global activities.
A minimum of twenty (20) hours of global service learning.
Lake Mills High School has a diverse selection of courses that fulfill the globally focused course requirements.
English 9, English 10, Music, Native American Studies and AP European History require course overlays to be completed while you are taking the course. For the course to count toward the Global Scholars Program, you will need to complete 3 overlays for each course.
Global Scholars Program students must complete eight cultural literacy reflections. Four of those reflections must come from literature, the other four can come from film, music, art, museums, etc. It is encouraged that you complete the Cultural Literacy Pre-approval form prior to doing the work. The Lake Mills High School LMC has a large collection of fiction and non-fiction books that can be used for the Cultural Literacy Component. Check out the list here:
Global Scholars Program students must demonstrate interest in global citizenship through active participation and leadership in at least four co-curricular and other school sponsored or endorsed activities in grades 9 - 12.
Global Scholars Program students must complete global/cross-cultural public service project/s involving at least twenty hours of work, connected to a global community (different from his/her/their own) or to a global issue. Pre-approval is suggested before starting the project to make sure it meets requirements.
Upon successful completion of the LMHS Global Scholar Program, graduating seniors will receive the following:
A transcript with the designation of "Global Scholar".
A cord at graduation (lilac) and designation in the graduation program.
A Certificate of Completion from the State Superintendent that certifies the named student has successfully completed a program in Global Education and has been designated a Wisconsin Global Scholar.
