Music Camp Scholarship Program 2026

Eligibility

Students currently in grades 7 through 12 in the Lakeland Union High School area and currently participating in a school-sponsored band or choir program or extracurricular music activity are eligible to apply.

Scholarship program details

Each scholarship will provide up to $500 for an organized music education enrichment program such as a summer music camp. A total of up to $3000 in scholarships will be offered in 2026. 

Scholarships may be used for tuition and fees for an organized music education program. Scholarship funds may not be used for private music lessons, the purchase of instruments or supplies, or transportation costs. 

Scholarships will be awarded to the student or parent upon proof of payment for the music program, or may be paid directly to the music program to cover the cost of tuition or fees. In case the student withdraws from the program or there is a cancellation for any reason, the scholarship amount shall be returned to the LUHS music boosters. 

Criteria for selection

Applications will be accepted beginning March 1, 2026, with the first review of applicants beginning on April 10, 2026.

The following criteria will be used to select scholarship recipients: 

• Past participation in band or choir programs or school-sponsored extracurricular music activities at public schools within the Lakeland Union High School district (5 points)

• History of other music activities such as participation in a community musical ensemble, honors music activities, solo & ensemble festivals, private lessons, etc. (5 points, with consideration given for the age of the student?) 

• Past receipt of LUHS Music Booster scholarships or program support, with preference given to student musicians who have not previously received a scholarship (+3 points for those who have not previously received a scholarship)

• Recommendation or endorsement of the student’s school or private music teachers (required)

• Commitment to continued participation in music programs at public schools within the Lakeland Union High School district or, if the student is a graduating senior, intention to pursue music beyond graduation or in higher education (5 points)

• Short essay describing the student’s interest in attending the music camp or extracurricular program and how it will benefit their musical education (15 points)

Scholarship amount: up to $500 or total cost of program tuition and fees, whichever is less.
