Academic & Career Planning (ACP) is intended to equip students and their families with the tools necessary to make more informed choices about postsecondary education and training as it leads to careers.
ACP is part of DPI's overall vision for every student to graduate high school college and career ready, meaning students must be competent both socially and emotionally. We want our students to be strong critical thinkers, collaborate and solve real-world problems, and persevere when things aren’t quite going their way. When put together, it’s about making them productive adults with satisfying careers.
LUHS Mission Statement: The Lakeland Union High School District is dedicated to creating a safe, stimulating environment where all students may acquire the knowledge, skills, and ability to pursue academic, vocational, and personal excellence. O
Labor market information (LMI) helps our school districts develop cutting-edge Career and Technical Education programs by uncovering the skills students will need in the future. WisConomy is the hub for WI employment data and can help students understand which jobs are most likely to be available and well-compensated.
Skill Explorer is another site with data generated from the WI Department of Workforce that allows students to explore careers by projected job growth, average annual openings and average salaries.

Student barriers are taken into account when developing all ACP-related curriculum. Any student with a disability is supported through the academic and career planning process by our LUHS staff through a variety of avenues such as:
Incorporating student’s flight plan documents into their IEP or 504 meeting if/when applicable
Incorporating our Transition Center and WINGS program into the student’s school day if/when applicable
Share additional information about how your district supports students from special populations in your ACP process.
The LUHS ACP Team meets annually to review and update our ACP Plan. Documentation of updates are reflected on this plan, as well as through the many linked resources on this plan that support programming for students.
Some key resources include:
Wisconsin State Statute 115.28(59) requires that school districts be provided computer software to be used statewide to provide academic and career planning (ACP) services to students in grades 6 to 12. Xello is a free, online career exploration tool available to all LUHS students via their school account. Students can use this software to take career-related assessments, explore online career and college profiles, and get information about financial aid and employment.
As part of our strategic plan, the district is focusing on developing and implementing equitable instructional practices that focus on the individual needs of our students so they are prepared for any post secondary path they choose.
