Students will be grouped into 3 experience levels:
Beginning (no prior experience on an instrument)
Intermediate (1 year on an instrument, this school year counts!)
Advanced (2-3 years on an instrument)
Course Descriptions
NEW Music Technology: Want to learn how to make music with your computer? Come put some beats together, learn to record your voice, and mix your first song in this hands on class
NEW Trash Band: It's time to groove! Pots, pans, trash cans and buckets! Let's put together some beats in our new approach to drumming! Open to all students who want to hit stuff (but not each other)
Secondary Instrument: (2 years on primary instrument required). Students may sign up to begin a second instrument of their choice. Classes may be held alongside beginning students.
Music Reading\Theory: Designed to give music students a strong foundation of the terms, structures and function of music along with the basic skills necessary to be successful playing instruments, singing, or composing music.
Guitar: Students will learn beginning guitar skills such as note reading, chord reading, and strum patterns. Intermediate and advanced students will continue through more advanced skills, strum patterns, and repertoire.
NEW Guitar Level 2: For students who know the basics, its time tackle extended chords, bar chords, and soloing (at least one year of experience and knowledge of open chords required)
Piano: Beginning students will learn basic piano skills such as reading in more than one clef, chord reading, and basic accompaniment patterns. Intermediate and advanced students will continue through more advanced skills, accompaniments, and repertoire.
Voice Lessons: Instrumental students who are interested in singing can take a small-group voice lesson focusing on proper singing technique.
Jazz Improvisation:(2 years on primary instrument required). Students will learn how to create their own unique music, learning various chords and rhythms as well as major, minor, and blues scales.=
Colorguard: Learn the basics of this important auxiliary group that adds a visual element to a band's field show with flags, sabers, and airblades.
