Grading

40% of the final marking period grade will be based on knowledge and skills. These assignments and assessments will be graded using a point system, with some assignments or assessments weighing more than others. Some of these will include formal written assessments (paper or chromebook), performances, exit tickets, pop quizzes, class worksheets or assignments, or projects.

30% of the final marking period grade will be based on participation.

30% of the final marking period grade will be based on behavior. See "Behavior" and "Rubric" below.

Behavior

Each student's behavior will be recorded throughout class.

A ~ If a student follows all of the classroom rules and expectations, they will receive a ticket and an A for their daily grade.

A+ ~ If a student goes above and beyond what is expected (e.g.. cleans up after other students, assists a classmate without being asked), they will receive an additional ticket and an A+ for their daily grade.

B ~ If a student breaks a classroom rule once, the rule broken will be recorded on a class chart, they will receive a reminder of the rule, and they will receive a B for their daily grade.

C ~ If a student breaks two classroom rules (or one classroom rule twice), the rule(s) broken will be recorded on a class chart, they will receive a verbal warning, and they will receive a C for their daily grade.

D ~ If a student breaks three classroom rules, the rule(s) broken will be recorded on a class chart, they will be sent to the "Resting Table" to think about their behavior, and they will receive a D for their daily grade.

F ~ If a student breaks four classroom rules, the rule(s) broken will be recorded on a class chart, they will be sent to the "Resting Table" to fill out a think sheet, and they will receive a F for their daily grade.

Office Referral ~ A student may receive an office referral for not returning a signed copy of the think sheet, or when deemed necessary by Ms. Dworkin.

Tickets

Students may receive one ticket for earning an A for their daily behavior and participation grades or two tickets for earning an A+ for their daily grade. Students may also earn additional tickets for other circumstances when deemed appropriate by Ms. Dworkin, such as exceptional behavior or winning a game. When a student earns a ticket, their name will be written on the back by either Ms. Dworkin or the student. The ticket will then be placed into the class jar. Once in the middle of each marking period and once at the end of each marking period, a student's name will be drawn from the jar. The students will be warned the prior week that a drawing will take place. If the student of the drawn ticket is not present, a new ticket will be drawn. That student will get to chose and lead a music related activity of their choice for the last 20 minutes of class. All tickets remaining in the jar at the end of the marking period will be returned to the students as record of their good behavior.
