Grades 6-12 Goals

Academic and career planning is part of every child's education.

Each student's plan evolves through 6-12 learning experiences, both in and out of school, that support employability skills, career awareness, exploration, planning and training. There are developmental goals and learning experiences planned for each grade level. Activities listed do not include classroom career lessons taught at every grade level in every subject area.

6th Grade- Know.

Academic- grades checked weekly with homeroom or study hall teacher; extra curricular activities; RtI and academic help.

Career- Career interest, personality, multiple intelligence, and learning styles taught by school counselor. Employment skills taught through daily expectations.

7th Grade- Explore.

Academic- grades checked weekly with homeroom or study hall teacher; extra curricular activities; RtI and academic help.

Career- Career Cruising, interest exploration. Employment skills taught through daily expectations.

8th Grade- Explore and Plan.

Academic- encouraged to check grades weekly. Parent meeting. High school preparation booklet mailed home; information also on school website. Extra curricular activities; RtI and academic help; high school graduation requirements reviewed.

Career- Careers course; CTE Exploration Courses; Career Cruising. Guidance lessons focus on post-secondary. 8th Grade Career Day at WITC. Individual high school scheduling conferences. Employment skills taught through daily expectations.

9th Grade- Plan and explore.

Academic- individual course scheduling conferences; CTE and elective courses; semester meetings with counselor; transcript review; extra curricular activities; RtI and academic help. Aspire test.

Career- job application; mock interviews; aide experience; service learning; career exploration in selected courses.

10th Grade- Plan.

Academic- individual course scheduling conferences; semester meetings with counselor; CTE and elective courses; extra curricular activities; RtI and academic help. Aspire test.

Career- Work experience encouraged; job shadow; aide experience; service learning; career exploration in selected courses.

11th Grade- Plan and explore.

Academic- individual course scheduling conferences; semester meetings with counselor; ASVAB test; ACT prep workshop; ACT; WorkKeys; extra curricular activities; RtI and academic help; college credit courses available; CTE and elective courses.

Career- Campus visits; job shadow; aide experience; service learning; career exploration in selected courses; college and military rep visits.

12th Grade- Plan and Go!

Academic- individual course scheduling conferences; fall and semester meetings with counselor; CTE and elective courses; extra curricular activities; RtI and academic help.

Career- Career (Work) Based Learning; service learning; aide experience; campus visit; FAFSA; letters of recommendation; scholarship and general resume; scholarship application; college application; college placement tests; submit necessary college enrollment requirements; schedule college registration.


Teachers include assignments and activities that engage students in career exploration, CTE careers, develop job skills, and encourage progress toward career goals.
