To join the Screaming Eagle Band Program, you'll need to select BAND on your course selection sheet during the Spring. Membership is open to ALL students who attend SLHS...there is no audition required to join. The only other requirement is that you show up to rehearsals when they begin.
We invite everyone to be in band or color guard regardless of experience or ability level, even if you have NEVER played an instrument before, WE WANT YOU! We will help you develop into a performer.
YES! The Screaming Eagle Bands travel extensively. We travel for football games, competitions, concerts, festivals, parades, etc. We ocasionally travel outside of the state and even out of the country potentially.
ABSOLUTELY! We guarantee that you will have the time of your life as a member of our band at SLHS. Pep rallies, football games, competitions, and other public performances are all a blast!
At $400, we are proud of the fact that our band FairShare Fee (which covers travel expenses, instructional staff, and entry fees to festivals/competitions) are one of the lowest in the country for a competitive band program. We also give ample opportunity to individually fundraise to help cover this fee entirely.
Band DOES NOT INTERFERE directly with other campus activities. Many members of the Screaming Eagle Regiment are involved in multiple sports, NJROTC, AP classes, student government, dual enrollment, Career Technical Education classes, jobs, and most other student activities.
Band Camp for the Screaming Eagle Regiment is always the last two weeks of July. We will learn most of our marching halftime show at that time. It is imperative that every student in our program attends these two weeks of camp.
YES! We expect anyone who does not already have family vacations planned during the summer rehearsals to attend each Tuesday night Regiment Rehearsal. EVERYONE needs to attend REGIMENT CAMP in order to have a spot in the band (unless you have a legal custody issue during the summer - pre-arranged with Mr. Wright). The Monday or Tuesday evening rehearsals begin in May and continue throughout May, June, July, and August, until school starts.
This is our two-week camp to learn the halftime and competition show. Every effort must be made to attend this camp. Contact Mr. Wright as soon as possible if there is a conflict. We don't want anyone to lose their spot in band! We need every student here during this massively important time.
Yes, every member of the South Lake High School Screaming Eagle Band Program is in the marching band, known as the Screaming Eagle Regiment. It is the only time that we have all of our students in one ensemble together, and it is an extremely visible, extremely important ensemble not only to our school and community, but also to the development of our students. This ensemble, more than any other, develops the individual person to their fullest capacity. It is imperative to the student's overall success in our program to be a productive member of our marching band, the Screaming Eagle Regiment.
Our Band Program rehearses over the summer and it is imperative that even incoming 9th grade students make themselves aware of our summer dates (starting in mid-May) and make plans to attend rehearsals and camps over the summer to insure a spot in the SLHS Band Program.

If you play FLUTE, CLARINET, SAXOPHONE, TRUMPET, OR TROMBONE, you will need to rent-to-own an instrument, as the school does not provide these instruments. Click on the link below for more information:
Please do not purchase the cheapest instrument you can find at an online retailer. Certain brands of instruments made overseas have no spare parts available for them and when they inevitably break down, your student is without an instrument, and that will almost surely occur within the first 2-3 months of ownership. Some of them are also incapable of playing in tune, which means they are not usable even when they are playable. There are only a few reuputable brands that students/parents should purchase from, that have parts available and will retain their value through the process of the student playing on it.

Drink enormous quantities of water before and after each day of camp, as well as Tuesday evening rehearsals. Bring a large (at least half-gallon) water jug filled with water/ ice so you can continue to hydrate throughout each day. Water will be available to refill your water jugs.
Get 7-8 hours of sleep each night before band camp and rehearsals.
Eat a well-balanced breakfast each morning of band camp and well-balanced meals on Tuesdays prior to evening rehearsals. Avoid greasy foods, dairy products, foods high in sugar, as these are known to upset your stomach with the heat. Caffeinated drinks should be avoided, as they can increase dehydration.
Bring quick-to-eat snacks (i.e.: granola bars, nuts, raisins, fruit/veggies, crackers, dry cereal etc.) to eat during water breaks. Your body will be using a lot of energy, and it will need fuel to work without getting sick.
Prior to departure for all rehearsals and Band Camp, apply an adequate amount of sun block to cover ALL areas of the body, especially the face, neck, entire arms, and legs. Sun block should be reapplied every 90 minutes during water breaks.
Bring a hat/ visor and sunglasses, as these are HIGHLY recommended while out in the bright, hot sun.
Great Shoes (Running shoes with adequate arch support)
Section color shorts and white shirts (Winds = blue / Percussion = red / Visual = Black)
Gallon+ Jug for Water
Hat and sunglasses
