Many people ask, What does a Professional School Counselor do?
Here are some frequently asked questions about the Counseling Office
What can I, or should I use the school counselor for?
Students and parents should utilize the counselor's office for academic support, personal/social/emotional, and general guidance issues.
What does the school counselor do?
School Counselors foster the well-being of the school system and the students through helping each student grow in his/her own personal, social, academic lives, as well as some career exploration. Counselors consult, collaborate, and work as a team with classroom teachers, administrators, students, and their families to build a safe and supportive environment for learning. I work directly with students through classroom counseling lessons, small group and individual short term counseling, behavior intervention assistance, and of course assist families in finding resources and outside counseling.
What does the school counselor not do?
In the school we do not provide long term individual or small group counseling. I will work with you to find the best resource of outside counseling.
