Coronavirus (Covid - 19)

This plan for addressing any Coronavirus incident is intended to serve the best interests of students, employees and families in the event of an incidence or threat of the Coronavirus infecting a Lake City student, employee, volunteer or a family member of any of these individuals.

While it is anticipated that the District would have the full support of the Minnesota Department of Health and Wabasha and Goodhue County Public Health in dealing with a crisis involving a Coronavirus incident, the District has primary responsibility for the health and safety of its students and employees in school. Therefore, the District will react swiftly and decisively to assure the good health and safety of those individuals if a crisis occurs.

It is important to note that as of March 15, 2020, no one in our school community has a confirmed case of COVID-19. We are continuing to take the precautions necessary to protect our students and staff.

Prevention

The District encourages students, staff members and volunteers to begin the following measures to avoid contracting the Coronavirus and avoiding the spread of it if they unknowingly have it:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for a minute each time. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer (60-95% alcohol) can work in the absence of soap and water.

  • Cover coughs by coughing into your sleeve or a tissue—not hands.

  • Stay home when sick. Do not return to school or work until you are feeling better and a fever is gone for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and face with unwashed hands.

  • Frequently clean all commonly touched surfaces, work areas, and equipment (e.g., phones, doorknobs, eating areas, countertops, remote controls, etc.).

  • Be prepared in case you get sick and need to stay home. Keep enough food, regular prescription drugs, and other necessities on hand in case you need to stay home and are not able to go out easily.

  • If you or a family member are feeling ill enough to require medical attention, medical providers are asking patients to call in advance of going to Fast Care, Urgent Care, and/or emergency rooms.

Additional steps the District will take to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus

  • Although the District already does regular cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces throughout each school on a regular basis, the level of cleaning and disinfecting will be accelerated in common spaces and classrooms of every school.

  • Lunchtime Solutions, our food service provider in consultation with the district, will make changes in our lunchroom. Students will not type in their lunch pin, more time will be allocated to clean tables after each lunch, and hand sanitizers will be used by students before getting their lunch each day.
