Module 3
Dear Parents / Carers
I hope this newsletter finds you well. We are thrilled to share that Leigh Academy Hugh Christie has been recognized as the most improved non-selective school in our local area according to the Fairer School Index 2025. Developed by the University of Bristol, this index evaluates schools by combining attainment and progress data with additional factors such as pupil demographics, ethnicity, and levels of deprivation. This broader measure provides a deeper understanding of the impact schools are having on their students.
Our Year 11 and Year 13 students are making excellent progress in their preparations for the upcoming GCSE and A-Level exams. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication, which was clearly reflected in their recent mock exams. Our students are on track to achieve outstanding results across both GCSE and A-Level subjects. Furthermore, all our Year 13 students are well on their way to securing their next steps, whether that’s university, further education, or apprenticeships. We are especially excited to announce that one of our Year 13 students has received an offer to study Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.
As we approach the end of Module 3, we are pleased with the progress made across all areas of the academy. Our digital curriculum, combined with a disruption-free learning environment, is helping to create a calm and purposeful atmosphere where our students can thrive and make exceptional progress. We are deeply grateful to all of our parents for their continued support and for providing us with valuable feedback.
We wish you and your family a restful and enjoyable half-term break. Please note that Module 3 will conclude on Thursday, 13th February. We look forward to welcoming all students back on Monday, 24th February 2025, at 8:25 am for another successful module.
Best regards,
Mr Palak Shah

Their dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence make them a shining example for their peers.
Since joining Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) in April 2024, we at Leigh Academy Hugh Christie (LAHC) have made remarkable progress. Even before officially becoming part of the Trust, we were working closely with LAT to drive rapid improvement across all areas of our academy.
LAT’s rigorous review process, which includes internal assessments based on Ofsted standards and external validations, has played a key role in our transformation. Following recent Trust reviews, we are proud to share that LAT is confident we would now be rated as “Good” in all areas if inspected by Ofsted today.
This success is reflected in our outstanding Summer 2024 GCSE and Post-16 results, which were significantly higher than the average for non-selective schools across Kent and Medway, including several local schools in the Tonbridge area.
A Message from Our CEO, Simon Beamish:
“Much has been achieved already, and our ambition is now for LAHC to become an Outstanding school – an accolade enjoyed by 53% of all LAT academies, compared to just 16% of schools nationally. The progress made so far is testament to the dedication of staff and students, and we are excited to see what the future holds for the academy."

Mr M Stamato
On Wednesday, 18th December, we had the pleasure of taking some of our unsung heroes on the first Rewards Trip of the year to Calverley Grounds Ice Rink. This special trip was a well-earned celebration of the hard work, dedication, and positive attitude these students consistently demonstrate in school.
Stepping Out of Their Comfort Zones
For many, ice skating was a brand-new challenge, but our students embraced it with enthusiasm and determination. It was fantastic to see them supporting one another, whether helping a friend stay steady on the ice or cheering on those taking their first steps onto the rink. Their exemplary behaviour, teamwork, and resilience truly showcased the best of our school community.
Fun, Laughter & New Skills
The students spent an hour on the ice, where they had the opportunity to develop their skating skills while having an amazing time. From wobbly starts to gliding confidently, every student gave it their all! The laughter, smiles, and words of encouragement made it clear just how much they enjoyed the experience.
Festive Fun & Treats
After an exciting skating session, students were able to soak up the festive atmosphere at the Christmas stalls. They enjoyed delicious hot chocolates, warm crepes, and the chance to pick out some festive gifts, adding an extra touch of magic to the day.
This trip was not only a reward for their dedication but also a reminder of the importance of celebrating achievements, pushing boundaries, and supporting one another. A huge well done to all who attended—you represented the academy brilliantly, and we can’t wait for the next Rewards Trip.

This module, our Advisory and Assemblies theme has focused on the IB Learner Profile trait of Reflective, encouraging students to think deeply about their behaviour, respect for others, and mental well-being—both online and offline. Through engaging discussions and activities, students have been challenged to consider how their actions impact themselves and those around them, fostering a greater sense of self-awareness and responsibility. This included the amazing Holocaust Memorial Day delivered by Miss Rosling
🎤 Developing Leadership Skills: College Leader Nominations
This module also provided students with the exciting opportunity to nominate themselves for College Leader, a role that allows them to develop key leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Those who stepped forward created and presented mini-manifestos to their Advisory groups, outlining their vision and commitment to representing their peers.
Following these presentations, each Advisory group voted for two students to serve as their representatives in College Leader meetings, which will begin in Module 4. These meetings will provide students with a platform to voice their ideas, contribute to school life, and inspire positive change within their College and the wider academy community.
🌟 A Huge Well Done!
A massive congratulations to all students who put themselves forward for this fantastic leadership opportunity! Stepping up to represent your peers takes confidence, initiative, and a willingness to make a difference—qualities that will serve you well both in school and beyond.
We are incredibly proud of the thoughtfulness, engagement, and ambition shown by our students this module, and we look forward to seeing how our new College Leaders shape discussions and bring their ideas to life in Module 4!
Honouring Holocaust Memorial Day
A significant part of this module was dedicated to marking Holocaust Memorial Day, with powerful assemblies and advisory tasks created and delivered by Miss Rosling. Students were introduced to quotes and testimonies from Holocaust survivors, prompting deep reflection on the real-life experiences of those who lived through one of history’s darkest periods. These sessions encouraged meaningful discussions, helping students appreciate the importance of remembrance, empathy, and standing against injustice.

They have reflected on how the internet can be a source of entertainment, a way to stay connected with friends and family, a space to learn new skills, and a place to express creativity.

The trip was a valuable opportunity to enrich their understanding and connect theory with practice.
Year 8 have delved into the fascinating world of Biomes and Tropical Rainforests, producing some excellent sketches that highlight the complex layers of the rainforest. Their work demonstrates impressive attention to detail and a growing understanding of how different ecosystems function and interconnect.
Year 11 have been diligently acting on the feedback received from their December mock exams, refining their skills and knowledge in preparation for their upcoming GCSE exams. Their focus on continuous improvement is evident, and the efforts they’ve made to address areas for development will surely pay off in the long run.
