Dear Parents / Carers
I hope this message finds you well. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your ongoing support of our academy.
We were thrilled to host our Year 9 Options and Parents' Evening this module. It was a pleasure to welcome you to the academy and engage in meaningful conversations about your child's educational journey. The commitment and enthusiasm of both our students and staff are truly inspiring as they explore the diverse opportunities available to them. This broad curriculum is designed to empower our learners, enabling them to discover their passions and develop the essential skills for their future endeavors.
This week, we also held our second Parents' Evening for Year 11 and Year 13 students. Thank you to all the parents who attended this important event to discuss their child's progress and the support strategies we have in place to help them excel in the lead-up to their exams. We are incredibly proud of all our Year 11 and Year 13 students. Their resilience, dedication, and determination to succeed are reflected in their impressive performances in recent mock examinations. Over the Easter break, we have planned a series of revision sessions across a range of subjects for both Year 11 and Year 13 students. During this crucial phase of their studies, our staff will continue to support each student to ensure they are fully prepared for their exams.
Our commitment to a disruption-free learning environment continues to yield positive results across the academy. We were pleased to welcome several parents who visited during school hours and shared their appreciation for the calm, focused, and engaging atmosphere. Over 90% of the events recorded in our pastoral system are now positive, which is a testament to our students embracing our core values of being Ready, Respectful, and Responsible at all times.
Our Beyond the Curriculum programme continues to grow at our academy, offering students a wide range of co-curricular activities. Please take a moment to read about some of the highlights in this newsletter.
On behalf of the entire academy, I wish you and your family a restful and enjoyable Easter holiday. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday, 22nd April at 8:25am.

Tayla - Year 7
Coe College
Tayla has made an outstanding impression at Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, consistently modelling the values of both positive behaviour and academic excellence. As a dedicated College Leader, she not only excels in her own learning but is always willing to support others, embodying the spirit of community and collaboration.
With an incredible 266 positive behaviour points to date, Tayla’s success is a reflection of her strong work ethic, respectful attitude, and commitment to our academy values. Her actions consistently reflect the core characteristics of the International Baccalaureate, particularly her open-mindedness, critical thinking, and desire to make a meaningful contribution to school life.
Tayla sets a powerful example for her peers—someone who leads with kindness, curiosity, and a quiet determination to be her best self every day.
Harry - Year 11
Angelou College
Throughout Harry's time at school, Harry consistently demonstrates respect towards both his peers and his teachers. He actively listens during lessons, waiting his turn to speak and valuing the contributions of others, even when he disagrees. This respectful demeanor is evident in his interactions during group projects, where he collaborates effectively, acknowledging diverse perspectives and ensuring everyone feels heard. Furthermore, he always addresses adults with courtesy, using polite language and showing consideration for their time and expertise.
Harry's behavior directly aligns with the school's core values of the 3 Rs: Ready, Respectful, Safe. By being "respectful," he fosters a positive learning environment where everyone feels valued and comfortable participating. His attentiveness and considerate communication demonstrate he is "ready" to learn and engage constructively. Moreover, his adherence to school rules and his thoughtful interactions contribute to a "safe" and harmonious atmosphere, where mutual respect underpins all interactions. His actions, therefore, are not isolated instances of good behaviour, but rather a reflection of the embedded school values in his daily conduct.
Sophie - Year 7
Attenborough College
Sophie has consistently gone above and beyond since joining Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, setting a high standard for effort, attitude, and all-round excellence. She approaches every lesson with enthusiasm, resilience, and a desire to improve—constantly demonstrating key attributes of the IB Learner Profile such as being principled, reflective, and a true communicator. Her positive contributions within the classroom and wider school community have not gone unnoticed.
Sophie’s talents also shine beyond the academy. We’re incredibly proud to share that she has been selected to represent Tonbridge & Malling District at an international football tournament in Barcelona this summer. This is an amazing achievement and a testament to her dedication, teamwork, and determination.
We have every confidence that Sophie will represent her team—and our academy—with pride. She not only has the skills on the pitch, but also the sportsmanship and leadership to support her teammates and act as a role model throughout the experience.
Congratulations, Sophie—we’re all cheering you on. Best of luck in Barcelona!
With so many incredible students striving for excellence each day, selecting just three individuals was no easy task. However, Harry, Sophie, and Tayla have each distinguished themselves through their unwavering dedication, exceptional attitude, and embodiment of our core values here at Leigh Academy Hugh Christie.
These three students consistently go above and beyond—demonstrating not only a strong commitment to their academic progress but also to the positive culture and community spirit of the academy. Their resilience, integrity, and leadership serve as a beacon to their peers, and their willingness to support others, take on responsibility, and contribute meaningfully to school life is truly inspiring.
A select group of high-achieving Year 10 students recently represented Leigh Academy Hugh Christie at the Maths Feast—a prestigious and intellectually challenging event hosted at Leigh Academy Ebbsfleet. This was no ordinary maths competition; it was a dynamic and fast-paced team challenge that brought together some of the brightest young mathematicians from across the Leigh Academies Trust.
Throughout the event, our students tackled five demanding rounds of problem-solving tasks that stretched not only their mathematical thinking, but also their communication, strategic planning, and collaboration under pressure. Each round challenged them in different ways—from quick-fire calculations to complex reasoning tasks—requiring the team to work in harmony and draw upon each other’s strengths.
Our students competed head-to-head against peers from other LAT academies, with points awarded in each round. The overall winners were the team who secured the highest combined score across all rounds of the competition.
We are incredibly proud of how our Year 10 team conducted themselves throughout the day. They demonstrated not only mathematical ability, but also resilience, teamwork, and a strong sense of academy pride. Well done to all involved—you did Leigh Academy Hugh Christie proud!

Turning Pages, Sparking Minds: World Book Day at Hugh Christie
At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, we celebrated World Book Day in true literary style, bringing the joy of reading to life through a rich variety of activities designed to inspire, engage, and ignite imaginations across the school.
Throughout the day, students immersed themselves in all things books and storytelling. Advisory sessions were transformed into interactive reading spaces where students explored powerful stories, shared their favourite reads, and took part in creative book-themed challenges. The Library became a hive of activity, offering themed quizzes, book hunts, and opportunities to discover new genres and authors.
Around the academy, the celebration continued with an exciting giant word-search challenge stretching across the school corridors, encouraging students to team up and test their vocabulary skills in a fun and active way. Budding writers also had the chance to unleash their creativity by entering a Trust-wide story writing competition, using BookCreator to bring their ideas to life with words and visuals.
As a highlight, every student received their £1 World Book Day token, which they can spend at a local or national bookshop of their choice—empowering them to choose a story that speaks to them and take one step closer to becoming a lifelong reader.
World Book Day at Leigh Academy Hugh Christie was a true celebration of the power of stories, and a reminder that reading opens doors to new worlds, big ideas, and endless possibilities.
This module, we were thrilled to welcome Edenbridge Primary School to Leigh Academy Hugh Christie for a fun-filled and inspiring experience day!
From the moment they arrived, our young visitors immersed themselves in a range of exciting, hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity. In our fully equipped food technology suite, the students rolled up their sleeves and cooked up a storm. Baking fruity buns while learning valuable kitchen skills and exploring our professional-standard cooking facilities. The smiles (and the smells!) said it all.
Over in the science lab, things got even more imaginative. Students took on the challenge of designing protective structures for their dinosaur eggs, learning how different materials behave and applying problem-solving strategies to keep their prehistoric passengers safe. It was fantastic to see the scientific thinking and creativity in full flow!
While the Year 5 students were fully immersed in hands-on learning and exciting activities, many of their parents had the opportunity to tour our site. Led by our impressive student leaders, the tours offered a personal insight into life at our academy—from the welcoming atmosphere and vibrant learning environments to the high expectations and values we champion every day.
We loved hosting Edenbridge Primary and their families, and we hope this visit was just the beginning of their journey with us. We can’t wait to welcome many of them back through our doors in the future—as part of our growing school community.
To celebrate World Book Day, students were treated to an inspiring and thought-provoking assembly led by Mr Harvey, titled “The Power of Reading.” The assembly explored the incredible benefits of reading for pleasure and not just for academic success, but for lifelong wellbeing. From boosting vocabulary and improving spelling to enhancing brain function and even increasing life expectancy, students were reminded of how transformational books can truly be.
But the celebration didn’t stop there! During Advisory, students took part in a series of exciting World Book Day activities designed to bring their love of literature to life. From tackling a giant whole-school word search, to testing their knowledge in a book-themed quiz, and showcasing their creativity in the Trust-wide Book Creator competition, it was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and engagement across all year groups.
The day was a powerful reminder that reading isn’t just a skill. It’s a superpower.
As part of National Careers Week, students across the academy were encouraged to take an active step toward shaping their future during a powerful and motivating assembly led by Mrs Stubbs.
The key message? It’s never too early or too late to start thinking about your future.
Mrs Stubbs introduced students to Unifrog, our comprehensive careers platform, which allows them to explore their skills, interests, and aspirations in a meaningful and personalised way. Whether they’re discovering new industries, comparing university courses, or building a standout CV, Unifrog gives students the tools to take ownership of their journey.
The assembly encouraged every student to be curious, confident, and forward-thinking and reminding them that their ambitions start now, and that support is always available to help them take the next step.
This module, we proudly celebrated International Mother Language Day (21st February) A powerful reminder of the importance of language in shaping who we are and how we connect with the world around us.
Students explored why this day matters, recognising that our mother language is often the one we feel most at home with—the language in which we think, dream, and express our truest selves. It’s the voice of our families, communities, and cultural heritage, passed down through generations.
The day also provided an opportunity to celebrate the incredible diversity of language and communication across the globe. By acknowledging and valuing different languages, we gain a deeper understanding of one another’s backgrounds, experiences, and worldviews.
International Mother Language Day at LAHC encouraged students to embrace their own identities while celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures within our academy—reminding us that language is more than just words; it’s a bridge to belonging, empathy, and global citizenship.
In advisory sessions, students also learned about Artificial Intelligence (AI), how it could be beneficial to society but also its potential drawbacks. At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, our aim is to ensure that students are educated in Online Safety and AI Literacy, so that they are prepared for the wider world. Online Safety and AI Literacy have formed a substantial and essential part of their Personal Development, and we will continue to educate our students on the ever-evolving online world.
This module, we proudly celebrated International Women’s Day (8th March)—a global moment to recognise the achievements of women and reaffirm our commitment to gender equality.
The theme for 2024, "Accelerated Action for Gender Equality," inspired students to reflect on the progress made so far, while recognising the work still to be done. Through assemblies and discussions, students explored how they can be allies, challenge gender stereotypes, and support a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
From celebrating the accomplishments of women past and present, to recognising the importance of equal opportunities and representation, students were encouraged to think critically and act compassionately. The message was clear: real change starts with small actions, and everyone has a role to play.
International Women’s Day at LAHC served as a powerful reminder that by standing together, we can help create a world where every voice is heard and every potential is realised.
This module, our Year 7 students have been engaging in deep philosophical and ethical thinking through their Religious Education topic: “What does it mean to be good?”
Throughout this unit, students have demonstrated impressive levels of the IB Learner Profiles, Particularly 'Principled,' 'Balanced,' and 'Thinker.' They've explored the foundations of morals and ethics, asking big questions about what shapes our beliefs, values, and decision-making. From classroom debates to reflective discussions, students have been encouraged to grapple with real-world moral dilemmas and consider how they would respond in challenging situations.
The unit also guided students through different religious and non-religious perspectives on what it means to live a ‘good’ life, including insights from Christianity, Buddhism, and the ancient philosophy of Stoicism. Students compared teachings and values across these worldviews, identifying common principles such as compassion, self-discipline, and integrity, as well as where they differ.
This thought-provoking module has not only deepened students' understanding of global belief systems but also invited them to reflect on their own values and the kind of people they aspire to be. It’s been a powerful journey into the complex, fascinating world of ethics and morality, and our Year 7s have risen to the challenge brilliantly.
This module in PSHRE, our Sixth Form students have been engaging with one of the most important topics facing young adults today: respectful relationships and consent.
As part of this learning, students watched a critically acclaimed film centred around characters navigating relationships, peer pressure, and the blurred lines of communication around consent. The film prompted deep reflection and raised important questions about how easily misunderstandings can arise—particularly in situations involving intoxication, social pressure, and emotional complexity.
To enrich this learning, Year 13 students had the valuable opportunity to take part in an interactive, lawyer-led workshop delivered by Rachel and Ellie from the Schools Consent Project. These experienced legal professionals led an insightful and engaging session on:
The legal definition of consent and related sexual offences
Ages of consent and how to identify and communicate boundaries
Bystander intervention and supporting friends in vulnerable situations
How to respond to disclosures and seek help when needed
The workshop concluded with a powerful analysis of key scenes from the film, through a legal lens. Students were guided through real-life scenarios and asked to examine each situation for Choice, Freedom, and Capacity. The three core components of legal consent. The session challenged students to think critically about both intentions and consequences, and how the law interprets these actions.
Our students found the experience eye-opening and empowering:
“It was really good to have a legal expert to answer our questions.”
“The lawyers made complex ideas easy to understand and fun to explore.”
“We talked through real consequences and legal definitions.”
“They used relatable scenarios that made us think about what we’d actually do.”
This important topic has enabled our Sixth Formers to have open, honest conversations about consent, helping them to build respectful, safe, and healthy relationships both now and in the future. At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, we’re proud to be fostering a culture where knowledge, empathy, and respect lead the way.
Module 4 has been an exciting and thought-provoking time for the Social Sciences department, with students across Key Stages diving deep into real-world issues, developing academic rigour, and showing genuine curiosity for the world around them.
In Health & Social Care, Leah (Year 10) has stood out as a model of excellence. Her work is consistently produced to a high standard, and she approaches each lesson with maturity, independence, and a clear passion for the subject. Her dedication is setting the bar for others.
At Key Stage 4, Katie (Year 11) has been making waves in Sociology. She has shown exceptional progress in developing structured, analytical essays and consistently offers thoughtful, insightful contributions to class discussions—particularly around the complex theme of power and authority in society. Katie applies key concepts and sociological language with precision, demonstrating a true grasp of the subject.
In Criminology, Emily (Year 12) has been an absolute star—always engaged, inquisitive, and deeply invested in understanding the root causes of crime. Her questions during class discussions not only deepen her own understanding, but also elevate the learning of those around her. Her commitment to academic discussion is outstanding.
Finally, a huge well done to Kaitlyn (Year 13), whose consistent effort and drive are reflected in the high-quality coursework she is producing in both Law and Health & Social Care. Kaitlyn's ability to manage the demands of both subjects while maintaining such strong standards is incredibly impressive.
One of the highlights of this module has been the phenomenal work produced by Year 12 Criminology students as they applied criminological theories to real-life cases. Students investigated the background and motives behind notorious serial killer Fred West, producing detailed, analytical posters that linked theory to case study with clarity and creativity.
But they didn’t stop there. Students went even further by working collaboratively in large groups to debate the effectiveness of each theory in explaining criminal behaviour. These sessions were rich in dialogue, critical thinking, and respectful academic challenge—a powerful example of how social sciences can develop both analytical skills and confidence.
Take a look at some of their incredible work
The Social Sciences team couldn’t be prouder of the enthusiasm, academic progress, and maturity shown by our students this module. The future is bright for these thoughtful, analytical, and socially aware young minds

Using their MYP research and inquiry skills, they explored evidence, considered competing theories, and built reasoned arguments about the suspects. This hands-on historical investigation has sparked debates and encouraged critical thinking as students stepped into the shoes of historians to reach their own conclusions.
We’re also incredibly proud to celebrate a brilliant achievement by Mrs Rosling, one of our fantastic History teachers. Her article exploring the role of Muslim leaders during the Second Crusade has been officially published by The Collector, a prestigious history and culture website. It's a must-read for anyone interested in medieval history!
From student curiosity to staff scholarship, History at LAHC continues to thrive. Proving that the past is not only fascinating but full of lessons for the future.
We are incredibly proud of Abigail for her powerful and thoughtful entry in the Holocaust Memorial Day competition. Her work was not only detailed and well-researched, but it demonstrated a profound level of empathy, historical understanding, and personal reflection—going well beyond what’s expected in the classroom.
Abigail approached the project with great sensitivity and maturity, weaving together historical facts with creative expression to honour the memory of those affected by the Holocaust. Her entry stood out for its emotional depth, analytical strength, and the way it connected past atrocities with the importance of remembrance and tolerance today.
As a result, her submission was chosen to represent Leigh Academy Hugh Christie at Trust level—an incredible achievement and a testament to her dedication and passion for history.
Well done, Abigail! You’ve shown how history can inspire powerful learning beyond the classroom, and how student voice can play a meaningful role in commemorating the past.

From population growth and migration to urbanisation and the development of cities, students have been examining the causes and consequences of major global trends. Through data analysis, discussion and debate, they’ve deepened their understanding of how geography helps us explain the world we live in today.
On Monday 3rd March and Thursday 6th March, our Year 9 and Year 10 boys’ rugby teams stepped up to represent Leigh Academy Hugh Christie at the highly anticipated LAT Rugby 7s Tournament, hosted at Strood Academy.
Despite facing schools with more established teams and seasoned players, our boys showed tremendous heart, resilience, and determination. Many of our players were new to the sport or had limited match experience, but that didn’t stop them from rising to the challenge and giving it their all on the pitch.
From the first whistle to the final play, both teams demonstrated the core values we pride ourselves on at LAHC—teamwork, perseverance, and respect. Their sportsmanship was commendable, and their commitment to supporting one another through each game showed real maturity and character.
While we may not have walked away with the trophy this time, our students walked off the pitch with pride, progress, and a passion for the game—and that’s a win in itself.
A huge well done to all who took part. You have made us proud! We can’t wait to see how these rising rugby stars develop in future tournaments.
LAHC Cross Country Team – Rising to the Challenge
Our students displayed incredible determination, resilience, and team spirit throughout the competition.
For many of our team, this was their first time competing at this level—but that didn’t hold them back. From the starting line to the final sprint, they gave it everything they had, showing grit, perseverance, and a real desire to represent LAHC with pride.
What stood out most was their sportsmanship—encouraging each other through every lap, celebrating personal bests, and showing unwavering support for teammates and competitors alike. It was a fantastic reflection of the core values we uphold at Leigh Academy Hugh Christie.
Well done to everyone involved—you should be incredibly proud of your performance and the way you represented our academy!
Reading the Future: Dystopia Comes to Life in English
This module has been nothing short of exciting in the English department, where students across Key Stages have embraced creativity, critical thinking, and communication in truly inspiring ways.
World Book Day was a huge celebration at Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, where the power of reading took centre stage. Small School Model - How our Colleges are shaping our student's experience
What's Been Happening in our Colleges
Positive Points Power
Students in Coe College have truly gone above and beyond this module, earning an impressive number of positive points through their consistent effort, excellent behaviour, and commitment to both academic and personal growth. Their determination and drive continue to impress us. We are incredibly proud of all they’ve achieved. Let’s keep the momentum going.
Year 9 Options & Parents' Evening – Building Bright Futures
This module also saw a key moment for our Year 9 students and their families, as we hosted a combined Parents’ Evening and Options Information Event. The evening offered a fantastic opportunity for parents, carers, and students to explore the next stage of the learning journey, with in-depth guidance on GCSE and BTEC subject choices.
We were thrilled with the high level of engagement from families and the thoughtful questions raised throughout the event. With tailored advice from subject teachers and support staff, students were able to begin shaping their future pathways with clarity and confidence. The collaboration between home and school is vital, and it was wonderful to see our Coe College community working together to support each student’s aspirations and success.
College Competition: British Science Week
Attenborough have won their 2nd College Competition of the year during British Science Week. With 74 entries into the Creature Creator AI Challenge, Attenborough went storming ahead into 1st place again. This is all down to the students commitment to take part to represent their college and their ambition to showcase their creativity and knowledge. The five winners from Attenborough college are Harrison Merritt 9AT5, Imogen Morrison 9AT6, Freya Fleetwood 10AT4 and Alice Varley 11AT2. Well done to everyone taking part in this challenge.
Luke Pavuk - The PE department took a group of year 9 and 10 students to compete in the LAT Rugby Event this module. Mr Gregory was incredibly impressed with how the year 9 team did with limited training as a team, and specifically highlighted Luke Pavuk as one to have demonstrated exquisite technique on the pitch, strength in his tackles and leadership with his team, showing clear drive and determination to succeed.
Module 4 has been a celebration of intellect, innovation, and ambition at Angelou College, with our students rising to every challenge and shining in a range of academic opportunities across the Trust.
We kicked off the term with a brilliant display of mathematical mastery in the LAT Trust Maths Competition, where our talented mathematicians showcased exceptional problem-solving and teamwork. The energy in the room was electric—buzzing with focused concentration and strategic thinking. Competing against other academies in a tough, multi-round format, our students represented Angelou College and Leigh Academy Hugh Christie with pride, helping us secure an impressive 5th place finish overall. Their perseverance and collaboration reflected not only a strong grasp of complex mathematical concepts, but also a true love for learning. We’re incredibly proud of every student who took part—they embodied determination, resilience, and academic excellence.
Elsewhere, British Science Week brought out the best of Angelou creativity and scientific curiosity. The highlight? A captivating challenge where students used AI technology to design their own fictional animal or plant, complete with imaginative adaptations suited for survival in a made-up environment. From desert-dwelling shadow serpents to frost-feathered polar birds, our students created incredible species that were as scientifically sound as they were inventive.
They didn’t stop at design. Students provided clear, thoughtful explanations of the evolutionary traits and survival strategies behind their creations, demonstrating a deep understanding of biology, adaptation, and environmental interaction. It was a powerful reminder of how technology can be used not just to create, but to enhance learning and deepen scientific understanding. The buzz of excitement across classrooms was contagious, and the standard of work produced was truly exceptional.
With competitions like these, Angelou College continues to set a high bar for academic engagement and interdisciplinary learning. We're excited to see how our students perform in the next round. Fingers crossed, we bring home another College victory soon!

MYP Consultation Visit
We are thrilled to announce that Leigh Academy Hugh Christie will be welcoming our official MYP consultation team on Monday 31st March and Tuesday 1st April as part of our journey toward becoming a fully authorised IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) school.
This visit marks a significant and exciting milestone—the final steps before our full MYP authorisation. It is a moment for us to proudly showcase the incredible work that has gone into embedding the MYP across our curriculum, culture, and classrooms.
Over the past months, our staff, students, and wider community have embraced the values of the IB, and we have seen first-hand the positive impact of the MYP on teaching, learning, and student growth. From developing internationally-minded learners to building real-world skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and resilience—our academy has come alive with the spirit of the MYP.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our staff, parents and carers, and of course, our students, for their ongoing commitment, enthusiasm, and belief in the MYP vision. Your support has been vital in getting us to this point—and will continue to shape the future of learning at our academy.
This consultation visit is not just a checkpoint—it’s a celebration of progress, a reflection of our shared values, and an exciting glimpse of what’s to come.
