The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) provides students with access to engaging before school, after school, intersession, and summer learning opportunities that support academic achievement, social-emotional development, physical wellness, and student interests through hands-on, enriching experiences.
At La Habra City School District, ELOP is part of our EPIC Expanded Learning program—Engaging Programs Impacting Children—which offers students meaningful opportunities to learn, create, explore, and grow beyond the traditional school day.
In accordance with California Education Code Section 46120, eligible students in Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade have access to expanded learning opportunities at no cost to families.
Priority access is provided to students who are included in the district's Unduplicated Pupil Count, including:
Students eligible for Free or Reduced-Price Meals
English Learners
Foster Youth
Students experiencing homelessness
Additional enrollment opportunities may be available based on site capacity and program availability.
La Habra City School District partners with the Boys & Girls Club of La Habra and other community organizations to provide high-quality expanded learning opportunities for students across our elementary schools.
Eligible students are offered access to:
Daily before and after-school programming during the school year
Summer learning opportunities
Intersession programs during school breaks
Academic support and enrichment activities
Social-emotional learning experiences
Physical activity and wellness opportunities
Clubs, arts, STEM, leadership, and hands-on learning experiences
These services are provided at no cost to qualifying families.
California's ELOP requirements ensure students have access to a full day of learning and enrichment opportunities.
During the regular school year, districts must provide access to expanded learning opportunities that, when combined with the instructional school day, total at least nine hours of programming.
Instructional Day + Expanded Learning Opportunities = At Least 9 Hours Daily
Expanded learning opportunities are offered after school and are designed to complement and extend student learning through engaging activities and enrichment experiences.
Students may also participate in expanded learning programs during designated non-instructional days throughout the year, including summer and intersession periods.
Program schedules and site-specific hours may vary. Families should refer to their school's EPIC Expanded Learning page for detailed information.
