Remote Conferencing Information for Students in COVID-19 Isolation & Voluntary Quarantine

For the 2021-2022 academic year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has allowed for the temporary provision of remote conferencing to all students without the submission of a waiver by the District. For more information on this option, please see below.

What is remote conferencing?

Remote conferencing support is a short-term opportunity that allows an eligible student to check-in remotely to receive teacher support with completing assignments and to be counted present with days counting towards the 90% attendance requirement. However, this is not remote instruction. Instead, this setting will provide eligible students with four hours of synchronous support by a certified teacher, including one required daily attendance meeting. Per TEA guidelines, eligible students who participate in the remote conferencing in accordance with the guidelines will be marked "present" for the day.

Who is eligible to participate in remote conferencing?

Your Lago Vista ISD student in grades K-12 may be eligible for remote conferencing if he/she is temporarily unable to attend school because he/she:

  • has tested positive for a communicable condition listed in 25 TAC §97.7(a) (such as COVID-19); or

  • has been identified as a close contact of someone who has COVID-19 and you are choosing to follow the recommended quarantine guidelines.

  • The total amount of remote conferencing instruction does not exceed more than 20 instructional days over the entirety of the school year.

Note: A close contact who is unvaccinated is encouraged to quarantine for 10 days without testing or 7 days after receiving a negative test result on day 5 or later.

How does remote conferencing work?

Once your student is determined to be eligible to participate in remote conferencing, you will receive an email from Parentlink with instructions and expectations.

  • For the days a student is assigned to remote conferencing, he/she will be provided with 4 hours of remote access to a certified teacher using Google Meet. Remote conferencing hours are from 8:30am - 12:30pm.

  • In order to be counted present for the day, a student in remote conferencing must sign into Google Meet for a mandatory attendance meeting. Please see emailed instructions for the time and link to the mandatory attendance meeting.

  • Video cameras must be turned on during the mandatory attendance meeting. If cameras are not turned on and the student is not visibly seen by the remote conferencing teacher, the student will not be counted present for the day per TEA guidelines.

  • While in remote conferencing, students are encouraged to access classroom assignments that are pushed out through the campus LMS (K-2: Seesaw; 3-8: Google Classroom; 9-12: Canvas) and to visit with the remote conferencing teacher for support, as needed.

Who provides the remote conferencing teacher support?

To the extent possible, a dedicated certified teacher will be designated to provide the remote conferencing support throughout the duration of students’ time in this temporary setting, but it will not be the students’ teacher of record.

How can I request for my student to participate in remote conferencing?

Upon receipt of confirmation that a student has tested positive for COVID-19, the District will automatically send an email via Parentlink the following day with remote conferencing instructions.

A parent who wishes to voluntarily quarantine their student after a close contact (in or outside of school) must first submit a Remote Conferencing Close Contact Request Form. Once a request form has been submitted, an email will be sent out via Parentlink the following day with remote conferencing instructions. Please allow 24 hours for request forms to be processed.
