Meet the Organizing Committee

Student Organizers

Samantha Ganser '23 - Lafayette College

(Co-chair)

Samantha is a rising senior majoring in Biochemistry (B.S) and pursuing a minor in Anthropology and Sociology. She is involved in many activities across disciplines at Lafayette. She conducts biochemistry research on yeast prion-chaperone interactions in the Hines lab, has been involved in education research, is a Kaleidoscope social justice peer educator, a general chemistry teaching assistant, and also, the President of Events and Outreach for Refugee Action, a refugee resettlement organization.

Swati Pandey '23 - Lafayette College

(Co-chair)

Swati is a rising senior majoring in Biology (B.S). She is involved in research with Prof. Daniel Stroembom and at the Kurt Lab. She is an active member of the campus community in her roles as the Student Leadership Intern, Interpersonal Violence Peer Educator, Resident Advisor, Supplemental Instructor, and an occasional free-lancer for organizing events on campus that "need our attention".

Michael O'Connor '22 - Lafayette College

Michael O'Connor graduated Lafayette in 2022 with a degree in Biochemistry with Honors in Chemistry. At Lafayette College he was a Teaching Assistant, Supplemental Instructor, and researched with Prof. Hendrickson for four years. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Biophysics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison!

Zoey Bragg '24 - Lafayette College

Zoey is a rising junior pursuing a B.S in Biochemistry. On campus, she is an EXCEL researcher at Dr. Hendrickson's computational lab which investigates the chromophore present in freshwater and marine turtle melanopsin. She is also a general chemistry TA , and is on the executive board of Alpha Phi Sorority.

Becky Hartman '24 - Lafayette College

Rising junior Becky is a Biochemistry major. She also does cross country and is in the track & field team! She is also a gen chem TA and tutor, member of ACS club and is presently doing research in Prof Bertucci's lab.

Kelsey Wong '25 - Lafayette College

Rising sophomore Kelsey is a Posse scholar from NYC and pursuing a major in Biochemistry. She is an Excel Scholar in Professor Nataro's lab preforming reactions with known compounds to further examine their role in catalytic systems and characterize new products. She also works in Professor Heidi Hendrickson's computational lab about ferrocene based polymer materials. She is also the Student Services Director in Student Government and an active member of International Student's Association.

Faculty Organizers

Dr. Heidi Hendrickson - Lafayette College

Heidi Hendrickson is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Lafayette College. With her expertise in physical and computational chemistry, she teaches both general chemistry and physical chemistry courses.

In her research group, undergraduate students use computational chemistry methods to investigate molecules and materials that can be used to solve a wide variety of chemical problems. Current projects in her group include designing new materials for polymer solar cells, identifying pollutants in aqueous environments, and understanding activation and inhibition mechanisms in proteins.

Dr. Bruce Wightman - Muhlenberg College

Bruce Wightman is Professor of Biology at Muhlenberg College, where he teaches genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry.

His research interests are focused on how genes control the development of the nervous system. His lab is currently focused on how neuroendocrine pathways control sleep and arousal.

Dr. Neha Vora - Lafayette College

Neha Vora is Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology & Sociology at Lafayette College.

Her research and teaching interests include diasporas and migration, citizenship, higher education, gender, liberalism, political economy, and human-nonhuman encounters, in the Arabian Peninsula region and in the United States.

She is the author of Impossible Citizens: Dubai’s Indian Diaspora (Duke University Press, 2013) and Teach for Arabia: American Universities, Liberalism, and Transnational Qatar (Stanford University Press, 2018). She has also published a co-authored book with Ahmed Kanna and Amelie Le Renard, Beyond Exception: New Interpretations of the Arabian Peninsula (Cornell University Press, 2020).

Dr. Ezra Lencer - Lafayette College

Ezra Lencer is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Lafayette College, where he teaches courses in genetics, developmental biology, and evolutionary biology.

His research uses genomics, gene editing, and developmental study to understand how genes control vertebrate development. Current projects in his lab are investigating the genetic control of cell migration, the development of stem cells, and the genetic changes associated with the evolution of new cell types.
