Act 1 Scene 5 (Ruby)

Characters:

How this represents our focus

This scene represents our focus by the fact that Hamlet was talking to a ghost (his dad), but for the madness theme it's focusing on how you can't talk to ghosts or see them so it would only be Hamlet going mad. The supernatural part is that ghosts are not real and the fact that nobody else can see the ghost in this scene. Madness and supernatural link together because Hamlet pretends to act mad but then begins to actually become mental.

Act 4 Scene 5 (Urji)

In Act 3 Scene 1, Hamlet and his dead father meet. King Hamlet appears as a ghost which shows the 'supernatural' well. King Hamlet reveals to his son that he was poisoned by the new king, Claudius (who is the dead kings brother) had killed him because he wanted the throne. The quote 'The serpent that did sting thy fathers life now wears his crown,' The one who wears the crown is Claudius and the king calling him serpent could lead further to that idea of Claudius being a backstabbing traitor. The king describes how he was killed in his sleep. This could link to the topic of both madness and the supernatural. This entire scene could be real and the ghost of the King is speaking to Hamlet, or Hamlet could have hallucinated this scene and had gone mad with grief.
