For Parents
Communication with parents is key the success of our daycare. Our handbook contains all the relevant information for parents. Here are some of the key items to policies. Feel free to download the full handbook below.
Sick Policy
If your child is sick
Parents are expected to keep their children home or seek alternative care for any of the following conditions:
pain: any complaints of unexpected or undiagnosed pain
acute cold with fever, runny nose and eyes, coughing and sore throat.
difficulty breathing, wheezing, or persistent cough
fever (37.5 or higher)
sore throat or trouble swallowing
infected eyes or skin, and or undiagnosed rash
unexplained diarrhea or loose stool combined with vomiting or abdominal cramps.
These symptoms may indicate bacterial or viral infection which is very easily passed from one child to another.
The child is to be kept home until ALL symptoms have disappeared.
Emergency Closures and Professional Development Closures
We follow All the Delta school distract closures due to weather - if the schools are closed, the daycare is closed.
If more than 2 staff cannot make it in due to unsafe road conditions, the daycare will close. We cannot run 2 programs when we are over child to staff ratio. [No exceptions]
You would be notified through the WhatsApp and we will do our best to notify you before 7 am. It is your responsibility to have your notifications on.
If 2-3 staff become sick with the flu, so that the daycare cannot maintain the required ratio of staff to children, the daycare will have to close and parents will be notified through WhatsApp. The daycare will not be able to open again until staff can return to work. [No exceptions]
We close 3 days a year for professional development days. You will be given a minimum of a months notice of the date it will be on.
Additional detail on illness
If a child has had a fever or vomiting they are not to return to daycare for a minimum of 48 hours, OR until they feel better; some children take longer.
If your child is not well enough to participate in the daily routines of the centre, he/she is not ready to come back. Staff reserves the right to not accept a child into the centre where illness is involved. This is a measure to protect all the children, their families and the staff. (LICENSING)
Lice: please note child needs to be treated with lice shampoo and ALL lice must be removed before re-entry into daycare.
Screen time policy
For the daycare (3-5) we watch a short 20 min video while transitioning from lunch to naptime while staff are cleaning and toileting.
School-age children may watch a video as a special treat on some pro-days. As an extra special treat every once in a while they are allowed to bring a hand held device (Nintendo switch) to which they are limited to 1 hour.
