The City of Los Angeles in partnership with the California Emerging Technology Fund and EveryoneOn is helping Angelenos find options for low-cost internet services, access to computers, and digital literacy services.

LAUNCH OF THE EMERGENCY BROADBAND BENEFIT (EBB) PROGRAM

The Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, virtual classrooms, and so much more.

The program provides a temporary discount on monthly broadband internet service and a one-time discount to purchase a laptop, desk computer, or tablet from participating providers. The Emergency Broadband Benefit is limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount per household.

ANGELENO CONNECTIVITY TRUST WiFi HOTSPOTS FOR K-12 STUDENTS

The Angeleno Connectivity Trust (ACT) program is focused on distributing up to 18,000 free WiFi hotspots to K-12 students experiencing homelessness, in foster care, at-risk youth, students with a disability and those who may have dropped out of school or at risk of dropping out due to lack of connectivity. Beginning December 2020, the devices provide 100 GB per year of free Internet access for five years.

Check out Chromebooks and wireless hotspots to access the internet from the LA Public Library or LA County Library.

Computers for Classrooms provides low-cost refurbished computers for individuals or groups.

Offers specialized phones and accessories for mobile phones.

human-I-T is a non-profit providing low cost internet as well as low-cost devices to individuals.

PCs for People provides affordable computers and low-cost internet eligible individuals and nonprofits.

The Access from AT&T program provides low-cost internet offers for eligible households.

The Spectrum Internet Assist low cost broadband program is available to eligible low-income households and seniors.

Through June 30, 2021, Cox is suspending late fees and extending payment relief offerings for Connect2Compete Program customers.

Frontier offers phone service or qualifying low-cost internet access through the California LifeLine Discount Program.

human-I-T is a California-based non-profit providing internet sign-up assistance for low-income families.

Starry Internet partners with the Housing Authority of the City of L.A. to expand affordable broadband.

T-Mobile offers internet plans at various pricing levels.

Verizon offers low-cost internet through the California LifeLine Discount program.

California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF) and EveryoneOn:

CETF is a state-wide organization that partners with EveryoneOn and other local community based organizations to help people get access to affordable internet services. CETF can assist to find internet services as low as $10/month. Some of their eligibility guidelines are as follows: Child enrolled in NSLP - National School Lunch Program- CalFresh (food stamps) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipient- Medi-Cal or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipient under $40,000/year. EveryoneOn is a national non-profit creating social and economic opportunity by ensuring that everyone is connected to the internet. EveryoneOn partners with internet service providers to create, refine and promote their low-cost offers for high speed internet. They also partner with refurbishers to make available low-cost devices such as tablets, desktop and laptop computers, as well as organizations such as American Library Association and others where individuals can access digital literacy workshops in their own neighborhood.
