School counselors are certified educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. School counselors help students to learn and apply academic strategies, social-emotional skills, and career exploration and planning. The school counseling program provides direct and indirect services to support student success. Direct services include classroom lessons, small group instruction, and short-term individual counseling. Indirect services include referrals for long-term support outside the school, data analysis to drive decision-making, and collaboration with families, teachers, and community.

Lessons
Our school counselors deliver monthly classroom lessons to every classroom.
Counseling
Our school counselors provide small group and individual short-term solution-focused, skills based, and crisis counseling.
Collaboration
Our school counselors connect families with community partners and mental health professionals as well as collaborate with teachers, staff, and caregivers to meet student needs.

Our school counselors align their program with the school and district goals, WA State SEL Standards, and American School Counseling Association's Standards

Sierra Thomas serves as the Prek-2nd grade school counselor. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from WSU, Pullman, and then went on to get her Master's in School Counseling from Arkansas State University. She loves outdoor recreation and sports, traveling and exploring new places, as well as game nights with friends.

She enjoys reading a good novel, hiking, fishing, sandy beaches, and Sasquatch. Most of all, Tami loves spending time with her family and friends. Tami's professional belief that drives her work is that all kids need to feel safe and welcome at school in order to learn.

The school counseling program will support all students to strengthen their self-efficacy and resilience. The school counseling program will partner with students, staff, families, and other community members to create a safe and welcoming environment where students can learn to become successful and productive members of society. The school counseling program will advocate for equity and student success, will encourage self-advocacy, and will promote the development of citizenship that embraces empathy and compassion.
