Sofaya was born and brought up in Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi district of Odisha. She completed her B.Sc. in Chemistry from B.J.B. Autonomous College, affiliated to Utkal University, Bhubaneswar in 2019 and her M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) from Hansraj College, University of Delhi in 2021, where she secured 1st rank in Hansraj College. After that, she joined as a junior research fellow in January 2023 under Dr. Ponneri C. Ravikumar at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar. In 2025, she moved to IISER Tirupati with Prof P. C. Ravikumar to continue her research. She is currently working on transition metal-catalyzed chelate-assisted C-H bond functionalization. She likes to dance during her leisure.
