Pathogen Testing Panels

Respiratory diseases arrive as an outbreak among the susceptible population and spreads quickly through the communities and families. The LabCurrent offers a respiratory pathogen panel to screen patients quickly for COVID-19, Influenza A, H1, H3 & B, Respiratory Syncytial Virus A & B, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes along with their antibiotic resistance. This may not be sufficient for some afflicted patients.
For more severely ill patients admitted to ER or Hospital or referred to Infectious Disease Specialists a more expanded panel with additional pathogens including Adenovirus, Bocavirus, Coronaviruses (229E, HKU, OC43 & NL63), Enterovirus, Metapneumovirus, Rhinovirus, Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans, Moraxella catarrhalis, Mycoplasma avium, Mycoplasma kansasii, Mycoplasma tuberculosis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and others is made available to obtain a comprehensive picture about the microbial population present.
The Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and Sexually-Transmitted Infection (STI) are serious. The LabCurrent uses a urine dip-stick to screen for analytes. Blood, leukocyte or nitrate detection indicates serious illness and further testing using Real-Time PCR for Candida, Escherichia coli, Morganella morganii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonal aeruginosa, Streptococcus agalactiae and others will be performed for a deeper understanding about the root-cause for patient illness. Prolonged UTI could lead to kidney stone formation, which is prevalent in North Central Florida. Left untreated could lead to kidney damage and other severe illness.
The LabCurrent STI panel is designed to screen for pathogens such as Chlamydia trachomatis & Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2, Trephonema pallidum, and Trichomonas vaginalis. A Vaginosis panel is available to screen for Candida fungal and other bacterial infections including Gardnerella vaginae.
The LabCurrent performs additional pathogen diagnosis using Real-Time PCR assays. Norovirus, Clostridium difficile, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Entamoeba, Giardia, and others are known to spread through contaminated food or water causing diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. Several bacterial pathogens such as Enterococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus thrive on open wounds requiring accurate diagnosis and treatment. Fungal infection in nails caused by Trichophyton, Candida and others are a concern. The LabCurrent will continue to innovate and introduce Real-Time PCR tests to diagnose pathogens.
Extensive uncontrolled antibiotics use in poultry and diary industry has resulted in bacterial pathogens developing resistance. The resistance genes are carried by plasmids and are easily exchanged between different bacterial species. Resistance to Penicillin and Vancomycin has emerged. Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) posh serious challenges at hospitals. The LabCurrent Real-Time PCR assay aids to identify these resistance factors and helps Physician to select appropriate antibiotics. Due to its importance the antibiotic resistance gene test is performed when a bacterial pathogen is detected and this greatly enhances Physician to select the right antibiotics to treat their patient.
