A Story For You

One of the things that lots of us enjoy is listening to someone read to us. (Hands up if you are one of these people! ) When your teachers were younger they too would snuggle down and listen to mum, dad, grandma or grandad read stories at bedtime, or get excited when a favourite teacher opened up a book and said, 'Put down your pens and pencils and listen...' Luckily, we can now download whole books from websites such as Audible, but there is something special about having someone you know take a book, open the pages and say, 'Chapter 1...`

As a little treat (and because we are missing you right now) your La Garenne teachers have recorded a whole book - just for you. The recordings may not be as slick and polished as Audible ones (you will hear little mistakes and definitely some coughing from at least one staff member) but we do hope that you will enjoy listening and that maybe you will even read along.

The story is one that is special to children and adults all around the world. Many know it from the movie, but millions and millions have enjoyed reading or listening to it too. It was first published in 1950 and was written by C.S. Lewis. It is a story of talking animals, a land where it is winter, but never Christmas and four children who find that wardrobes full of coats can sometimes be a gateway to great adventures. Do you know what it is yet? Yes, well done! You are right. The book is, 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.'

We are going to put a new chapter on this website each day. The first official day of 'A Story For You' is Monday 13th April and Chapter 2 will be online by 17.00 (LG time) on Tuesday, 14th April. So, snuggle down, get comfortable and go to to the first instalment...

p.s. Don't think this book is just for 'little kids' - it really isn't. Lewis' world may be full of magic, but like all of the best stories out there, it has some very powerful messages about humanity, the planet, and how we should live our best lives. We really hope readers from all year groups at La Garenne will listen and enjoy!
