Multimedia vs Media Production
During the first quarter, all students in the class are given the same assignments and projects. At the beginning of the second quarter and throughout the rest of the year, Media Production students begin working on assignments that are needed for KAMS TV and Yearbook.
Class Overview: This hands-on course focuses on a student's creativity and their understanding of using the software provided to complete projects assigned. Students will have the opportunity to utilize such equipment as DSLR cameras, camcorders, green screens. Software titles include Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects are just some of the programs available for student use. While I will be delivering step-by-step instruction for most of the projects, students who show the ability to excel with the software are able to either choose more difficult projects or submit their idea for a project they would like to pursue.
Expectations:
Multimedia is a class that asks students to exercise their creative mind and to use that creativity in various art forms such as photography, videography, and graphic design. However, in order to reach that goal, students need to first understand how the tools they are using actually work. We are fortunate that the district also believes that these skills are deserving of a student's overall academic growth.
Grading:
Students are expected to complete 15 projects during the quarter. Some projects take less than a class period to finish, while others can take a week or more. Projects that include videography, normally count for three grades. A student's final grade is determined by how many projects they complete and the grades they receive for those projects. As with any class that is based on artistic appraisal, a real determination in the effort. As with anything in life, for some students, this class is something that they excel in, while others struggle. My purpose is to enrich a student's experience with the medium they are using to create. A student's effort is more critical than the end product.
As the quarter progresses you may see missing assignments listed and a zero entered for that project. No grade is written in stone until the end of the quarter, so if a zero is posted for an assignment, the student has the ability to make up that project for full credit.
Cheating:
Cheating is not tolerated. The first offense will result in a zero. If the student makes up the assignment they will receive half credit for the project. After that, any project where a student has cheated will result in a permanent zero for that project/assignment.
