Black Mountain School offers a variety of musical opportunities for its students ranging from elementary general music to middle school choir & band classes. Students grades K-5 explore the basics of music theory, learning to read & write music and perform at school concerts. Middle school students may choose band or choir as a yearlong elective meeting daily to further develop their musical abilities. Choir students incorporate a myriad of musical styles and such methods as Kodaly and Solfège as encountered in the Arizona Academic Standards in Music. Band students receive instruction on playing techniques and heighten their understanding of the musical language through a variety of musical styles and mediums. All Black Mountain students perform periodically at school concerts.
