In order to earn the Seal of Civic Readiness, students must earn at least two points from the category of Civic Participation. Students should participate in developmentally appropriate civic experiences in a variety of settings - inside and outside of the classroom. Civic Readiness should be promoted by engaging students in relevant experiences that include students as active participants.
Earn 1.5 points - Civic Research Project
for conducting research on a civic issue and policy; writing a research paper with proposed solution(s) to the issue, tentative reforms
Earn 1 point - Civic Learning Experience I
for completing a minimum of 25 hours of a service learning project to the community, based on a civic issue to the region - i.e. poverty. Students must
Earn .5 points - Civic Learning Experience II
for passing an elective course that promotes Civic Engagement & Knowledge; check the more info button to see the growing list of electives that qualify for this component.
Earn .5 points - Civic Learning Experience III
complete at least 40 hours in extra-curricular clubs and responsibilities either inside KenTon Schools or in outside organization that shapes a student's civic engagement.
Earn 4 points - Capstone Project
for completing a Capstone Project, a culminating, experiential, summative project assessing a student's Civic Knowledge, Skills & Actions, and Civic Mindset [in development]
Combined with points from Civic Knowledge, students must have a total of 6 points to earn the Seal of Civic Readiness.
