In order to earn the Seal of Civic Readiness, students must earn at least two points from the category of Civic Knowledge. Students should have a fundamental and functional knowledge of government, law, history, geography, culture, economics, and current events. Here are the areas where students can earn points to exemplify this knowledge.
Earn 1 point
for passing four years of NYS required High School Social Studies classes
Earn 1.5 points
for achieving Mastery (at least 85%) on either NYS Regents exam in social studies (*can earn more than once)
Earn 1 point
for achieving Proficiency(between 65%-84%) on either NYS Regents exam in social studies (*can earn more than once)
Earn .5 points
for achieving Proficiency on any Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses in social studies (*can earn more than once)
Earn 1 point
for completing a Civic Knowledge Research Paper (*can earn more than once)
Combined with points from Civic Participation, students must have a total of 6 points to earn the Seal of Civic Readiness.
